At Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, silver gelatin prints conjure the sanctuary of connection—and a sociology of shared imagery.

Paradise of Memory / Paraíso de la Memoria, which runs through September 6 at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, is a culmination of the project thus far. As part of the exhibition, Quintana collaborated on a short film with director Leanna Creel and will be in conversation with journalist Steven Cuevas on June 6. And because only 30 of her 100-plus photographs will be exhibited, Quintana is putting together a book featuring the complete collection.

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art has opened two new exhibitions celebrating q***r identity, memory and community through textile art and photography.

Running through Sept. 6, the first — titled “John Paul Morabito: Dancing in the Night” — features large-scale woven works by transdisciplinary artist John Paul Morabito. Using linen, cotton, gold-leaf threads and beadwork, Morabito creates intricate textiles inspired by q***r history, resistance and celebration.

The second exhibition is “Norma I. Quintana: Paradise of Memory / Paraíso de la Memoria,” a portrait series by photographer Norma I. Quintana that examines memory, identity and cultural heritage.

Inspired by portraits made by itinerant photographers in Puerto Rico, Quintana recreates the hand-painted backdrop from her family’s own photographs to honor members of her present-day community.

Love to see Moon Mountain get the love it deserves in the Wine Enthusiast !!

"The roads up Moon Mountain aren’t necessarily easy to navigate, but the wines, the people, and the views are all worth the trip. Here are a few estates to check out if you’re craving some Cabernet or just a bit of mountain air."

Mountain Terraces Winery and Vineyard - This venture is tremendous, and not for the faint of heart (ATV vineyard tour, anyone?). These younger-vine wines already show awesome aging potential. With hillsides currently being tamed and new vineyard blocks being developed, it’s a great opportunity to see and learn about mountain viticulture in an early phase. The Cabernet is great, but look out for the Petit Verdot, which packs a wallop. “Up here, the vines struggle—volcanic soils, steep slopes, extreme elevation,” says Mountain Terraces owner Steve Ledson. “But that struggle is exactly what makes the wines extraordinary.”

Powerful and energetic Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme in this high-altitude region of Sonoma: Moon Mountain AVA.

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art opened its first exhibition of 2026 on Saturday with a colorful retrospective of artist Maija Peeples-Bright, whose playful, surreal animal compositions have made her a standout in Northern California’s Funk Art movement.

Titled “Maija Peeples-Bright: Life is Just a Bowl of Terriers,” the exhibition features Peeples-Bright’s “beasties,” a menagerie of fantastical creatures arranged in dense, imaginative landscapes. Her audacious use of color and texture creates vibrant, often dizzying canvases that invite viewers into a world of exuberance and whimsy.

The exhibition runs through April 26.

The Sebastiani Theatre is action central this weekend. After two Candlelight Concerts featuring the music of Queen, ABBA, Bach, and the Beatles on Thursday, then a quiet Friday, the place has three superb live shows back to back to back.

The 7:30 p.m. show on Monday, Jan 12, at Sonoma’s Sebastiani Theatre is big time. In a reprise of his 2025 appearance, Garrison Keillort returns to the Sebastiani nearly a year after that sho…

"Life Is Just a Bowl of Terriers" offers a retrospective look at one of Northern California’s most idiosyncratic voices. A key figure in the Bay Area’s Funk Art movement of the late ’60s and ’70s, Maija Peeples-Bright built a singular visual universe crowded with animals—her beloved “beasties”—stacked, multiplied and set loose in surreal, often absurd scenarios. Painted in thick, audacious impasto, her canvases brim with energy, texture and a mischievous sense of excess, filling every inch with creaturely invention. This exhibition, at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA), traces her evolution from the Funk years to the present, revealing a practice that has always reveled in imagination and humor. 5–7pm, Saturday, Jan. 24, opening reception at SVMA.

Once a self-described luddite, Lucas Cantor Santiago’s perspective shifted after working with AI to complete Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony.
