Years back, Minus the Bear played Starland Ballroom, crashed at Andy’s place after the show, and let us ask them some questions in Starland Ballroom’s glorious parking lot. We were promoting the video for their single “Knights” at the time. This is that tape. They’re back this fall, playing Menos El Oso for its 20th, dates in September.

& — “Ruin”
Blxst walks into a shuttered 1950s diner and watches. Couples argue in the booths around him; Sasha Keable plays a waitress clashing with her own partner while he sings about wanting to “put the work in.” He’s surrounded by the exact thing he’s trying not to become — the setting does the arguing for him. Directed by Maxwell Alldread, shot at Frank’s in Burbank. Via .

One version of ratbag drags another down a long alley like dead weight until the roles reverse — a restrained but unsettling physical metaphor. Directed by .art and ratbag.

— “Oui”
On paper the images don’t connect, but inside the video’s logic none of them feel like a stretch. The 11-member Korean collective commits so fully to its own rules that breaking them never comes up. Directed by Lee Suho; produced by Boring Studio.

— “Violet”
A rope connecting Joe P to a departing car rapidly unspools behind him — one simple visual metaphor turned into an unforgettable concept. Directed by Tony Yebra.

— “I’m Sorry”
Locked-off compositions, a motorcycle and quiet apartment scenes give the video a cinematic stillness; every frame feels considered.
braymores — “Thought Control”
The band’s energy leads, with city footage and well-used effects adding texture without distracting from the performance. Directed by ; shot by Noah Chlebeck.

Truman Sinclair, “4th of july”

No giant production. Just him, his dog, a stretch of beach, and a few fireworks after dark. It gives the song a face, a place, and another layer of feeling.

hey, nothing — “Arteries” (dir. Spencer Kelly)
Locked framing, the world sliding past behind them. The band called it a fever dream with robbers and basketball in it. That’s about right.

youbet — “Ground Kiss” (dir. Brittany Reeber)
Black and white, a basement, a subway platform. No money in it and it doesn’t matter. The lighting is doing everything.

tigersjaw — “Primary Colors” (dir. britainweyant)
A band playing in a room, a love story running alongside it. Not a new idea. Executed well enough that it doesn’t need to be.
Weyant also shot the Menzingers video below. He’s quietly become the guy this whole generation of bands calls, and he’s good at making bands twenty years in look current instead of nostalgic.

DOMANI — “Time” (dir. Jacob Rinks)
One long corridor, one take of him walking it. The color work is doing as much as the camera. He doesn’t have to do much because he doesn’t need to.

The Menzingers — “Chance Encounters” (dir. britainweyant + the band)
Shot on a handheld camcorder from the back of a Volvo wagon. The song moves between being fifteen and being who you are now, so the format is the idea.
