We like to think we are logical. Rational. That we make decision based on fact. The truth is most of the time we are led by emotion.

I buy Apple because they are easy to use. Nikon is better than Canon. You like Ford because they are more reliable than Chevrolet.

While these statements may hold some truth, the reality is we make decisions based on emotion, habit, identity, status, belonging or stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Then we create rational explanations for those decisions

We say we are buying that brand of car because it is reliable, cost, fuel economy, etc. But, really it’s because “It makes me feel a certain way”, “I’ve always wanted one” or “I just love how it looks”

We are all human. We like to believe we make careful, logical decisions. But, much of what drives our choices comes from emotion, identity, habits and belonging.

Why does this matter? Because, when you are talking to your potential clients you should understand what is important to them (not what’s important to you) and how they make decisions.

Not every video needs to be a full production.

While we always want our videos to look professional and represent our clients well, sometimes the most important thing is getting a timely message in front of the right people.

This was a quick shoot for Premier Plumbing, focused on sharing useful information while it was still relevant.

One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is waiting until everything is perfect before they start creating content. Consistency will almost always outperform perfection.

Keep your standards high, but don’t let perfection keep you from sharing your expertise. The businesses that communicate regularly are often the ones that stay top of mind.

A few weeks back, while filming at The Weymouth Center, I had the incredible luck of running into Joseph.

As many of you know Joseph is an incredible human being and just a joy to be around as well as a great photographer.

So I took the opportunity to hang out with him a bit and he took pictures of me flying my drone (that drone’s last flight btw. But that’s a different story)

Joseph is a creative’s creator. Always positive and always inspiring. Needless to say, this was a good day at work.

To be honest, this used to be me. But I definitely have become more particular. More organized. I like for things to have their place. To be in order. There is a certain satisfaction when things are put up and stored properly. There is both a visual contentment and an efficiency when working and all your equipment is in order. I’m not perfect by any means, but it’s a work in progress.
