Lake sturgeon are one of Wisconsin’s oldest, strangest and most powerful fish—and catching one is never guaranteed. I headed out alone hoping for a single opportunity, knowing that hours of waiting could come down to just one bite.

In this video, I explain the location, rig, bait and strategy I used to target these prehistoric fish. The patience paid off with several sturgeon, including a couple of really nice fish. It turned into a much better day than I ever expected!

Our scouting paid off here in Devils Lake ND and we were able to harvest a nice limit of pintails and greenwing teal this morning in a little sheet water pond. It was muddy but that’s what ducks like isn’t it? 😆

We caught plenty of fish for dinner on Devils Lake ND this morning and got out this afternoon to scout spots for the nonresident waterfowl opener. Needless to say, it looks like we found a good one!

We started out strong on our trip to Devils Lake ND as Jackson joined in the youth pheasant hunt. We hit the water today for some walleye fishing so stay tuned to see how we did! Now to go scout ducks for nonresident opener tomorrow… 😀
