Every year, the Theatre Department performs plays, musicals and one-acts that students can watch or participate in. This spring, Evangel Theatre is putting on The Sound of Music.

Even students like freshman Malachi Stickney who have never participated in theatre before are welcome to join in. “It’s a pretty good start for my first musical,” said Stickney, “I enjoy it.”

Some students participate in multiple productions each semester juggling roles and rehearsals for each show. Freshman Melody Brauninger is part of the musical and a one-act, but she enjoys the opportunities that each performance gives her. “It’s been humbling to be a part of both shows,” she said. “It’s been a lot of fun, and it’s been eye-opening to see the abilities that God has blessed me with.”

This year’s Made for More theme was “She is Courageous.” Guest speaker Charis Musick preached on Joshua 1:9 and taught girls not to fear the future. Multiple Vendors were present at this event from a range of jewelry to clothing apparel. There were also prize giveaways, a fashion show, a time of worship and a message by Musick. The fashion show categories were Disney Princess, Great Gatsby, Runway Bride, Southern Belle; and Fancy Nancy. Each category had two groups of two girls coming from different floors and halls on campus. This was a space to shed the weight of perfectionism and walk into the light. Together, we find strength in our shared stories and inspiration in our collective worship.

Photo 2: Evangel graduate Caylin Plaisance, senior special education major Kendall Wallace, senior intercultural studies major Madison Tabor and freshman psychology major Savannah Mckinley came together at Made for More to strengthen their faith.

Students, faculty and the Sodexo team members crafted homemade tacos and salsa for judges and attendees to try.

In addition to the competition, the night was filled with more than just good food; it was filled with even better company. With churros, tamales and fountain drinks, there was no shortage of things to choose from when voting for your favorite taco and salsa.

Evangel University’s Activities Board (AB) is hosting EU Icons tonight. in the Barnett Recital Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The prelims will feature both solo and group performances as students compete for a spot
in the finals, scheduled for Friday, March 27.

“My favorite thing about the event, as someone who is behind the scenes, is that it is our chance to feature the student body.” said Gianna Antonacci, Activities Board director.

Kiara Crafton, AB member, highlighted the community aspect of the prelims saying, “The really cool thing that I love about prelims is that the student body is invited to come out and watch, so they can watch as the students who entered into EU Icons perform for the first time, and they get a chance to cheer them on.”

AB Trivia Night was an event where students made a team with friends and tested
their knowledge and skills with different questions and categories. This event allowed students
to meet other people, eat chips and salsa and have fun. There were six different categories plus a brainiac bonus round, having fifteen questions in each. Freshman and AB member Wesley Kansiewicz said, “Best Trivia Night ever! So glad I was able to put on such a great night for many Evangel Students to come and attend.”

The purpose of AB Trivia Night was to set up an environment where students are encouraged to be involved within their community and have a place of belonging. A few students shared their experiences and excitement after the event was over. Junior Kadence Oehlschlager said, “I really enjoyed it until I lost and I didn’t know the answer to a question about my own major. I would rate the experience a ten out of ten!” Freshman, Madeline Hutchison said, “The most exciting part about AB trivia night was getting to be with my team and learning about everyone’s different niche of knowledge!”

Throughout the night, each student was able to put their brain to the test and have a group of people to have a fun and memorable experience.
