Can we talk about phone updates for a second? Auto, manual or never?

Apple dropped a new iOS update this week and it got me thinking. There are three types of ‘updaters’ in this world.

Type A — The Auto Updater
Change doesn't scare you. You set it, you forget it. You wake up, your phone updated overnight, you move on with your life.

Type B — The Manual Updater
You see the little notification badge, you ignore it for weeks, or maybe months. "I'll do it when I'm ready."

Type C — The Never Updater
Why fix what isn't broken? Your phone is fresh from 2019 and you refuse to change a thing.

Can you make a roux?

I made an old school shrimp and egg stew the other night and I need to talk about this. I know this page is mostly about technology, but stay with me.

I'm from South Louisiana, where a roux is a rite of passage and is made with patience, a wooden spoon, and the constant low-grade anxiety that you're about to burn it and ruin the whole pot. There's no fixing a burnt roux. You can only start over and pretend it never happened. Not to mention, if you have a rigorous stir like me, a splash of nearly cooked hot roux can ruin your whole skin routine. Big ouch!

So here's my controversial take as a busy mom who cooks nearly every single night:

Buy. The. Jar.

Jar roux is not a shortcut. It is a gift from Cajun gurus who are making it en masse and selling it to us! Consistent color, texture and zero drama. Use it liberally and stir constantly. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about using jar roux because I'm here to tell you, Cajuns use it.

Now here's where the tech thing comes back around, because with CC, it always does.

A lot of people feel the same way about technology that I feel about homemade roux. Like they're one wrong move away from burning the whole thing down. Like there's no recovering if they mess something up. Like everyone else somehow learned this and they missed the class.

Can I just talk to a human?

That's what my loved one said. Not to me because she didn't want to bother me. She sat on hold for 45 minutes. Then she hung up and said she was done with the internet entirely. "I'll get rabbit ears for the TV and that's it."

I laughed. Then I got in my car and drove over there. Turns out, she's not alone. Not even close.

When I started asking friends about their struggles, everyone had a version of the same story. People are struggling quietly, not asking for help because they don't want to feel like a burden. They'd tried the tutorials, the automated help lines, the steps that led nowhere, and they are just ready to give up.

That stayed with me. I'm Chillon and it's exactly why I started my service, CC Digital Life.

Can one extra step actually protect everything you have online? Spoiler: YES! 🔐

One day your phone started asking for a 6-digit code every time you log in to EVERYTHING. No explanation. No instruction manual. Just there it is. Figure it out.

Most people do one of two things:
-Get frustrated and turn it off
-Ignore it and hope it goes away

And honestly? That's not your fault. Nobody handed anyone a guide. But here's what that annoying little code is actually doing, it's locking the door to your digital life. 🔐

You can think about it this way:
