Commemorate the 243rd Anniversary of the Battle of St. Louis at the St. Charles County Heritage Museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, May 26. The Heritage Museum is hosting a day full of activities fun for the whole family, including lectures, a history scavenger hunt, and historical games. Guests can enjoy the museum galleries as well where staff are waiting to answer your questions. Kona Ice will be on site from 11:00-1:00 selling snow cones.
At 11 a.m., listen to Ste. Genevieve historian, Robert Mueller at They Don’t Make Them Like They Used To. The presentation will cover the various types of French vertical log structures that were typical of those used in colonial Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis, St. Charles, Cahokia and Kaskaskia. Examples of surviving French houses will be presented. The layout of a colonial town lot and its other supporting structures will be described with particular emphasis on their style of construction and size.
At 1 p.m., Stephen L. Kling Jr., book author and co-curator of the museum exhibit will talk about the making of the American Revolutionary War in the West Exhibit. Kling will present on the background and making of the book and museum exhibit. Learn about the experts and historians who wrote for the book, and the plan to use it as the basis of an extensive museum exhibit. See many pictures of the museum exhibit under construction and learn about the background of the history, original artwork, artifacts, and costumes of the exhibit.
At 5 p.m., the documentary House of Thunder will be shown, that features the research presented in the American Revolutionary War in the West exhibition and book.
