Happy Monday, y’all! Q1 is almost over, and hopefully soon, so will this quarantine 🥴

Some days, it’s been a struggle to find the energy and focus I need to be creative. With this extra time, I’ve been able to switch gears and focus on upgrading my systems. As an independent business owner, I’m learning the importance of thinking through every step of your client’s journey. I want to make sure that with every interaction, my value is fully communicated & I deliver my clients & audience my best self 😌💜

My brand used to lack strategy, and without a strategy I was lost. I had to decide who I wanted to create for in order to truly be able to call myself a “designer.”

My strategy moving forward is to consistently position myself as the creative branding expert my clients are looking for. I design for the entrepreneurs, the small business owners, the community project organizers, the nonprofit businesses— the folks with a VISION who need an informed creative strategy to help them achieve their brand’s goals.

I’m aiming for excellence all 2020!
I’ve been using the month of January to learn ways I can personally & creatively develop. My current read is from Behance’s 99U book series, “Manage Your Day-to-Day,” which offers insights from 20 professional creatives on how to enhance their creative processes.
If we’re being honest, my time-management skills are currently not the best. But if elevating my brand & attracting new clients is my goal, then I know I need to tighten some things up & make some changes to my habits. In line with the author’s advice, instead of taking on an overwhelming & unlikely New Year’s resolution, I’m making smaller changes to my routines to create a bigger impact over time.
Breaking down my creative & personal goals into daily tasks & habits helps me feel much more optimistic about my chances of succeeding! It’s the day-to-day grind that counts. That’s where the magic happens.

Can you believe we are halfway through 2019?! I’t’s been a while since I’ve posted, but best believe ya girl’s been working! Let’s catch up:

In April, I started my first full-time post graduate position as Digital Media Associate at ArchCity Defenders, a nonprofit civil rights law firm located here in St. Louis. It was a long and humbling job search, but I am so grateful to be a part of their growing team and to have a hand in the amazing advocacy work they do for poor communities and communities of color here in my hometown. It’s been 3 months on the job for me and I am absolutely loving every minute.

Aside from my new gig, I’ve also been taking some time to reflect on my brand. It’s my goal to offer my clients the solid branding advice and design services they need to strengthen their brands, and I know that success in this work begins with my own solid foundation.

Overall, 2019 has been good to me so far. I’ve started growing my network and met some dope local creatives. I found a job that allows me to explore my passion and challenges me in the best ways. And, as always, I’m pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone and consistently take action. Can’t get results without putting in the work. Let’s get to it 👌🏽💜

One thing I’ll always do is keep it real with ya’ll as well as with myself. And today that means coming to terms with one of my current personal obstacles: Imposter Syndrome.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On top of being a perfectionist (as most creatives tend to be), I am my absolute worst critic. Revamping my brand— specifically building my social media presence— has been a healthy challenge in itself because it’s forcing me to be visible, mistakes and all. There are plenty of times when I have an idea in mind or even a plan in motion and I end up convincing myself not to see it through. Even though I have followers that support me and clients that have faith in the work I do, I don’t always have that same faith in myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Plenty of us struggle with similar feelings of fear and self-invalidation, AKA the “Imposter Syndrome.” IS can really have you stuck. One minute you’re in the zone, you have a plan, you’re ready to execute. Then the next, you start second-guessing everything you’ve been working toward. You start to wonder: “Who do I think I am?”

This quote from Marianne Williamson is one of my all-time favorites, and I believe it answers this question perfectly. So if you’re like me and you find yourself stuck in a place of self-doubt, remind yourself how POWERFUL you really are and get back to doing you. ✌🏽💕

While there are plenty of factors that can influence your success, I’m personally realizing the importance of self-confidence in the pursuit of success. Progress won’t happen if you don’t believe you can make it happen. In 2019, I hope everyone can take the time for more self-encouragement, more self-appreciation, and more self-confidence.
