Today is National Smile Day.

I’ll be open and honest, the past 6 months since my dad died, haven’t been as smiley as other times in my life.

I’ve buried myself in work, both with Northwoods Marketing Agency, and my other now full-time position as Executive Director of the Invisible Wounds Project. I’m also a coach and director for my local Fastpitch organization.

I work hard to make others lives better. I often feel like I’m supposed to save everyone, be everyone’s “easy button”, and make perfect decisions. There’s almost nothing I won’t do to help someone.

This weekend, I realized I have to take care of me and my family first, or else I will have built everything for nothing. I’m going to learn to take care of myself and my family first, so that I can continue to put in the work to improve the lives of others.

These smiles are what it’s all about. This is what I get up and work for every day. I can’t sacrifice these smiles so that others can smile. I have to focus on my own smiles first.

Happy New Year! The new year is a chance to make changes and an opportunity to reflect on the past and the future.

This year I learned that growth is only good if you're working with people who are good fits for you and your business. Mutually respectful business owners are good clients. Clients that are willing to trust you are good clients. Clients that think you are solely responsible for their business being successful and treating you like you're less than them are bad clients. RUN from those clients and don't look back.

Do you have a resolution to read more in 2022? Do yourself a favor and put this book on the list. I read it last January in a few days, which is not something I normally do. It's an inspiring book and will lift your spirit to another level.
