Before a new website, sometimes a new base needs to be built.

Sometimes the best move is honoring what's already there and making it what it was always meant to be.

Before a new website we looked at everything else. C. Merrill Construction had a logo with real equity. They weren't willing to walk away from it, and they were right not to. When we worked with them on a full brand engagement (strategy, identity, design system, website) we started the visual work by refining the mark they already had.

Same logo, but sharper. Cleaner. Ready for anything.

Then we built the system around it: type choices that complement the wordmark, a color palette drawn from construction materials, and a pixel grid design language that turns "building blocks" from a metaphor into a visual reality.

That foundation is what made the website work. Not the other way around.
