“Close Haul” a memory of the sea. 2009
By Robert Follett

While staring out over the desert landscape of saguaro cactuses of Arizona, one cactus  leaning way over in particular viewed in my mind like a sturdy sailboat racing up wind over the turbulent sea at close haul. I later went home and painted this oil painting in my apartment.
In 2015, I re-created the painting by hand as a digital illustration in Adobe illustrator. I was pleased with the result.
