To the Editor,
The Penny for Progress initiative is ushering in transformative change across Sumter County, focusing on critical areas like public safety, infrastructure, and downtown revitalization—all essential for the community’s well-being and economic growth.
One of the most impactful components of this initiative is the major investment in public safety. Funds will go toward constructing new fire stations, replacing outdated fire trucks and ambulances, and building a state-of-the-art “Live Fire” training facility for firefighters. These improvements will ensure emergency services can respond faster and more effectively across the county, saving lives and reducing response times. For residents, especially those in rural areas, this means enhanced safety and greater peace of mind, knowing that first responders have the tools and facilities they need.
The benefits go even further. Enhanced emergency services can lead to lower insurance premiums, minimize property damage during emergencies, and create a safer business environment. As Sumter becomes a safer place to live and work, it also becomes more appealing to new businesses and investors, fueling economic development throughout the county.
Beyond public safety, the Penny for Progress initiative is driving significant upgrades to county parks and downtown Sumter. Expanding parks and recreational facilities, alongside efforts to revitalize downtown through building renovations and infrastructure enhancements, positions Sumter as an attractive destination for business expansion. Modernizing the business district with additional parking and pedestrian-friendly spaces will not only boost the area’s appeal for businesses but also make it more inviting for shoppers, further contributing to local economic growth.
Together, these efforts will make Sumter County a safer, more vibrant, and more prosperous community for all residents, now and into the future. Please join me on November 5th by voting YES to the Capital Projects (Penny) Sales Tax Referendum.
Sincerely,
Josh Morrell

Once again, I would like to thank Johnny McCoy, Mike Boan, Duwine Sinkler and all of the staff at Jones GMC for helping me with “The Team Bus”. It left me stranded in Tallahassee and the transmission was replaced when I got it back to Sumter. Last weekend coming back from Clemson on Sunday, I felt the transmission slipping and the tachometer would race up. Sure enough, after only 472 miles, that transmission had to be replaced. Duwine knew that I HAD to have the Suburban back today as I am going to my son Jason Marshall’s wedding this weekend and I am hauling people around Hendersonville. He got it back to me this afternoon as I needed!
This is why I have only bought vehicles from a Jones dealership. All of my 17 cars that I havRobert Jonese either come from JonRex Boydolet Cam Harvinnes) or from LA Leasing (Rex Boyd and Cam Harvin).
Local service cannot be beaten!

Instead of whining about this and spreading un-truths, go to one of these community meetings and learn the truth about the Penny for Progress.

When the Capital Projects Sales Tax Referendum, also known as the Penny for Progress or Penny Tax, was on the ballot in 2022, there was confusion surrounding the projects and ballot question itself, …

On my way home from Duke yesterday, while driving with my lip poked out because I did not get the VYVGART® Hytrulo (efgartigimod alfa and hyaluronidase-qvfc) nor did I get my infusions moved to every two weeks, my phone rang. It was Karissa Gable, MD's assistant setting an appointment for me. Dr. Gable is who I was trying to get into to see at Duke in May. She only will see patients who have CIDP. I do have to wait until November 5th, but this is the expert on what I have and it will be worth the wait!

A mini update. Still struggling to do simple things. After some "debate", today I finally go for my nerve conduction test. I need some answers. Still can't feel my arms, hands or left leg. One bit of sideways good news is that my hands now hurt. Maybe that is the nerves healing themselves but I have gone from no pain or "0" on their scale to about an "8". Not bitching, but so many people have reached out and wanted to know.
Let you know what I find out later today.
