Honored and privileged to have had the opportunity to create this challenge coin for the FBI Newark Division Crisis Negotiation Team. This project was built with deep symbolism and meaning behind every detail of the design.

The owl — “The Negotiator” — represents the identity of the CNT: wisdom under pressure, patience and restraint, calm within chaos, seeing what others miss, and influence without force.

The brick wall background represents Newark itself — resilience, grit, and identity. The graffiti words “Empathy,” “Rapport,” and “Influence” symbolize the power of words and expression within chaos. The hourglass represents stalling for time, while the teeter-totter symbolizes restoring balance and returning someone to their normal level of functioning.

Even the octagon shape carries meaning, centered around the number 8:
• 8 ALS = their core teachings
• 8 words in their motto
• 8 stars in the design

“Time is our Weapon. Life is our Mission.”
