Your website may be working perfectly today, but are the accounts behind it actually up to date?

We are currently more than two weeks into helping an organization regain ownership of its hosting account. The process has included legal reviews, affidavits, notarized documents, payment records and a lot of back-and-forth.

We have also seen websites and business email accounts go offline because the credit card on file expired and renewal notices were sent to an old email address.

A quick mid-year account review can help prevent weeks of stress, paperwork and downtime.

This email is not from us.

A spoof email is when someone makes a message look like it came from a legitimate business, even though it was sent from another source. In this case, the email references a “Compliance License Key Configuration Required” and attempts to create urgency around website compliance.

Please do not click links, reply, or provide any login/payment information if you receive a suspicious email like this.

Official Rough & Ready Media emails will come from our domain, not a random Gmail address. When in doubt, contact us directly before taking action.

Scammers are getting craftier, but thankfully their branding is still usually trash.

Stay alert, and please feel free to share this with anyone who may need the reminder.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fake GoDaddy Email Making the Rounds
We’ve had several clients forward this message today, so we’re posting a warning for anyone who manages a website or domain. The email below looks like it came from GoDaddy — but it’s 100% fraudulent.

A few giveaways:
• GoDaddy never asks you to scan a QR code to “retain your password.”
• Passwords don’t “expire” like this.
• The grammar and formatting are off.
• QR-based login/reset links = classic credential-harvesting attempt.

We blurred the QR code so no one accidentally scans it.

👉 If you receive this email, delete it immediately. DO NOT click anything. DO NOT scan the code.

To check your account, always go straight to GoDaddy by typing the URL manually — never through an email link.

If you think you may have clicked or scanned something suspicious, reach out to us and we’ll help you lock things down.

Stay safe out there — the scammers are getting bold again.
