The spring of 2003 represented a huge staple in my life. As a 13 year old I started getting ready for high school. Nothing out of the ordinary there. The only problem, I hadn’t picked a high school to attend. Well I wouldn’t say that, I actually had picked one, I just faced a financial barrier because my family didn’t have the money for me to attend. You see Georgetown Preparatory School is one of the best high schools in the country and believe me the tuition reflects that! Let’s just say it exceeds that of some colleges.

My family and I didn’t know how we would come up with the money. We were banking on one thing and one thing only, REAL ESTATE INVESTING! Actually, they were banking on it because at the time I didn’t know REI existed or I would’ve probably skipped high school altogether and started my career in it, HA! I digress.. now my father served as a real estate agent for decades and when my grandmother moved into a nursing home, he had the opportunity to sell her house.

You see my grandmother had alzheimer's, so you can just imagine the shape of the house. Heck people struggle to keep their houses in order with no memory problems at all. Anyways, that’s a story for another time.. Safe to say the house needed some real TLC and that said my father didn’t list it on the MLS. So when it came down to me attending Georgetown Prep, it seemed like a long shot especially to the 13 year old me. Everyday I waited for news on the house and ultimately my future.

Weeks passed and finally my father delivered the good news.. they found a buyer. Now I repeat I didn’t understand real estate investing or cash buyers back then. So, can you imagine what 13 year old me thought of the person willing to buy and live in that house? Over 15 years later I looked back on this experience and had a eureka moment. And I jumped at the chance to give back to an industry that forever changed my life!
