What do many people take for granted? What is with us constantly but we don't think about it except when it's not there?

Our health. I mean, if it weren't for our health, we'd be constantly sick. Our bodies would be feeble. We wouldn't be able to do much of what we enjoy doing like going to work, playing with our kids and grandkids, enjoying our hobbies. I mean, if you think about it, literally everything that we are able to do is because of our health.

Can you imagine if you weren't healthy? Sick all the time... Laid up in bed... Unable to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Can't do anything with your family. Can't even do anything for yourself.

There are so many things in life that we take for granted. But I think that we need to start being grateful for those things we take for granted. So today, take just a moment and be grateful for your health. Even if you're not in perfect health, you do have some good health. Be grateful for it.

But remember, our bodies are machines. Think about your car that you drive every day. What would it do if you never changed the oil or rotated the tires of did any kind of repairs to it? It would break down and you'd be walking!

Your body is the same way. It's the only one you have so make sure that you are taking care of it. So many of our medical issues can be curbed if we do something as simple as watch what we eat and drink. So instead of getting that sugar-loaded soda, go for the water. Instead of that slice of cake or that cookie, go for an apple or a banana.

Your body will thank you for it!

Have a blessed day!

Quote of the Day for 27-November-2024: "Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other." - Walter Elliot

Life has a way of overwhelming us. It keeps adding stuff and throwing more stuff at us and trying to bury us in the quagmire. Eventually, we all feel like we are suffocating and don't know how to get out of it.

But you don't win a marathon all at once. You take it mile by mile, yard by yard, foot by foot, inch by inch. A marathon isn't won at the mile. It's won at the inch. If you've never run a marathon before, you don't start by getting up and saying, "I'm going to run 26 miles today!" Guess what'll happen? If you've never trained before, you'll be dry-heaving and dying by your first mile. You get up and train for that first mile.

That's life too. Life isn't a sprint. It's a marathon. The difference is that instead of inches, feet, yards, and miles, life is measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, etc. Don't worry about the finish line. Picture yourself there, yes, but how do you get there? Do something THIS minute! Then the next minute! Then the next! Keep driving forward!

We're all in this marathon called life together! Let's all push for that finish line! One step at a time!

Have a FANTASTIC day! It's a fantastic day to have one!

"It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure." - Joseph Campbell

There are many stories in the ancient world of heroes descending into the depths of the underworld to seek wisdom. They had to go down into the abyss so that they could recover the treasures of their lives. It's not quite so metaphorical for us these days. We don't need to take a journey into the underworld. For many of us, our abyss can be nothing more than a traumatic event in our lives. When any traumatic event hits a person, they spend time reflecting on what happened to lead them to this moment in time.

One of my favorite abyss scene in modern movies was in The Dark Knight Rises. When Bruce Wayne had his back broken by Bane and was left in the prison at the bottom of the big hole, he was convinced that he was done. Fortunately, he was able to find his treasure of life. He managed to get back to walking and getting back into shape. Then he made the climb. The climb that so many of us have done metaphorically. We each have climbed out of the pit of our own design. The climb is never easy. It's never convenient. But we did it. And we pulled ourselves out of that pit and stood up, we were changed. And now, we are stronger and wiser because of that.

So when you think you're in the abyss and there is no escape, think of Bruce Wayne. Remind yourself that this abyss is a teaching point, not an end. Don't get stuck at the bottom of the abyss. Make that climb! Great things await the person who gets out of that abyss.

I hope each and every one of you has a fantastic day!

Quote for 25-November-2024: "You just can't beat the person who never gives up." - Babe Ruth.

As a single dad, there were many nights when I wanted to give up. Especially the first few years after the divorce. I was tired of the fight. The sting of feeling like I had failed dug into me not just daily, but hourly. For fourteen years, she was a huge part of my life and now that was gone. In addition, I was accustomed to coming home to my kids every single night. Now I came home to silence. The pain was excruciating.

But I made a choice. It wasn't an easy one. In fact, it was probably one of the hardest choices I've ever made. And that choice was to keep fighting... To keep pushing forward... To keep working on myself... There came a moment where I made the choice to not worry about my ex and I focused on me. I sought therapy. I started taking the time to rebuild who I was... What were MY hobbies... What did I like to do. I rediscovered Alex.

Now that doesn't mean that I ignored my other responsibilities. I continued to be a father to my kids because I knew that they needed me then too. And I made sure that I took care of my fiscal responsibilities meaning my child support. I looked at child support as what it is meant to be... Money for my kids. I have no idea if she uses that money to take care of our kids, but that's a worry that I had no control over so I stopped worrying about it.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that life doesn't care if you are tired. It isn't interested in how you're feeling. There will be days where you don't want to even get out of bed. There will be days where you will feel like it's not even worth it. But it is. It ABSOLUTELY is! Don't ponder the past. It's already over and done with. It can't be changed. And don't worry about the future. It hasn't been written yet. Focus on your here and now. The present is the only thing you truly have. And don't try to solve all of your problems all at once. That will be overwhelming. Pick one and focus on it.

And remember... You are NOT in this struggle by yourself. Reach out to your friends and your family! You DO have a support system! USE IT!

Each one of us has our own special journey that we call life. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. There is only doing it. We will all make mistakes as we walk it. But like Dory in Finding Nemo, just keep swimming. There will be times when life feels like it's suffocating you.

The first year or two after my divorce, there were so many nights where I cried myself to sleep thinking that life was over. I'd try to see the end, but all I could see was this massive cliff wall in front of me. It took a LOT of work for me to scale that wall. But eventually, I did. Do I still struggle sometimes? Of course! But now I see my struggles in a different light. Now my struggles give me the opportunity to grow... to become a better person.

I know there are single parents out there who are going through this. I know there are some of y'all who crawl into bed dreading the next day. I know. I've been there. And now I'm here to do what I can to help in whatever way that I can. Nobody should go through this alone. So I'm at the edge of the cliff for you, tossing the rope over the side to help you climb out.

Be strong, my brothers and sisters! Each of you are wonderfully made with unique skills and abilities. I want you to think about that for a second. On a planet of 8 billion people, there is only one you. In all of human history, there has only ever been one you and for the rest of eternity, there will only ever be one you. If you get nothing else out of this, focus on that.

I hope everybody has a blessed day!

Quote for 23-November-2024: "What you do today can improve all your tomorrows." - Ralph Marston

So make sure that you do something... ANYTHING... today to propel your life forward! There's only one person who can change your life and if you want to know who, take a look in the mirror! Your friends and family can provide help and guidance, but there is only one person who can actually go out and do it!

So in the words of Larry the Cable Guy... Git 'er done!!!

Life will do everything it can to drag each one of us down. It will bash us, beat us, overwhelm us, but each one of us is created to thrive and succeed. Our Creator didn't make losers. But He's not going to spoon feed us. If you're into sports, games are not won with ease. Every basket made, every touchdown scored, every goal made, every run hit takes effort. Nobody handed those scores to the players. They had to fight tooth and nail to get them. Our lives are the exact same. Don't get caught up in where you are. Get caught up in where you want to be. Then take a little step each day to get there. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. And a marathon is won one mile at a time!

I am re-reading The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. She starts by pointing out that every major religion has gratitude at its core. She quoted Matthew 25:29.

"For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."

But she does something interesting. She adds a word and it makes a HUGE difference!

"For whoever has GRATITUDE will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have GRATITUDE, even what they have will be taken from them."

She then goes through and pulls up similar statements in Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Hinduism. She asserts that gratitude is a universal law and it makes sense.

The task for Day 1 starts out pretty easily. List 10 things for which I'm grateful. But... and this is where it gets tricky... I will be adding 10 new things every day for the entire 28 days.

So how different would life be if you had 280 things to be grateful for? If you get the chance to read it, I HIGHLY recommend it!

Hey, folks! Let's talk about balance! I'm sure most of y'all have heard that life is about balance. You need to balance your work life with your home life. Eat a healthy balanced meal. Other similar sayings...

But have you considered the balance of your body? What might happen if your body's internal balance was knocked out of whack? Might that impact your health? What if the foods and the drinks that we are putting in our bodies are knocking our balance out of whack?

Just giving you something to ponder as you go through your day.

Hope everybody has a great day!

So today, I want to talk about my health and my body. I have what is called a dad bod. I grew up eating anything. I soon came to realize that I love food! To date, there is only one food that I can't stomach and that's raw celery. Don't get me wrong! Cooked celery in a stew is awesome! But I can't do raw. YUCK!

I started getting overweight back in the late 90s. And I've bounced around on different ways to lose weight. Weightwatchers was where I started. Somewhere along the way, I started learning about the TYPES of foods and the ingredients that are put into foods, particularly processed foods. One of the rules that I learned was that if you can't pronounce the ingredient easily, you shouldn't put it in your body. I'd like to be noble and say that I started following that, but alas, I didn't. It stays at the back of my mind, but I still find myself eating things that are bad for me.

Along the way, I've learned a lot about the foods that we have available to us here in America. I used to joke about food. I had some people talk to me about drinking Diet Mountain Dews and that they contribute to Alzheimers. My response: "Let me tell you something. I can't eat beef because of the mad cow disease. I can't eat chicken or turkey because of the avian flu. I can't eat pork because of the swine flu. I can't eat fruits or vegetables because of the pesticides. And I can't drink diet sodas because the artificial sweeteners cause Alzheimers. Everything I eat or drink is going to kill me so why not just enjoy myself?"

But, of course, I've learned a lot since then. I know that it's possible to find foods that won't kill me in some shape, fashion or form. And I'm excited to see how eating healthy will impact me.
