I love the flexibility being a graphic designer allows. It is a late night at a dance competition waiting for the final set to finish before awards and I’m finishing up player ads for TWHS baseball team’s media guide.

Tech Tip: One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How do you scan a QR code that is displayed on your phone?”

ANSWER: You can either download the image or take a screenshot of the image. I’ve heard others say that screenshots work better than downloads but they both work for me. Go to your images. On the image in the bottom right hand corner there should be a little icon with three stacked lines when you click on the image. When you see that icon and touch the QR Code you should get a prompt to open the link in your browser. (See image in comments).

I have a section of camp ( ) where I show the kiddos projects that are completed. Then I show them all the proofs it takes to get to the final project. I do this because when I show them projects they have said, “I could never come up with those ideas.” Once I show them all the proofs, modifications, color and font changes, they seem to get a little hope in their eyes that I read as, “well, maybe I can!”

I thought I would start showcasing these “behind the scenes” projects as a little something different.

This weekend is The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival so I thought I would show this set that I designed 2 years ago. I was reminded of this because the banners are currently hung around town to promote the upcoming event.

I love this festival. It is one of the best fine art shows and ranked among the top arts festivals in the country. It is an outside festival that is surrounded by parks and the waterway. There is art, music, food, interactive kids areas, and is simply beautiful.

It was so good to see this artist at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival! I worked with Christina Smith in 2019-2020 for about 10 months and never met her until today (COVID canceled the show where she was the featured artist). Once the show was canceled, she realized she needed to enhance her online presence because the uncertainty of festival life was absolutely real and scary so we redesigned her website. One smart lady! To see her work in person filled my soul with joy. Digitally, her work was beautiful and so fun to work with. In-person, her pencil and gouache artwork is beyond stunning. The girls were telling her about their favorite pieces from the festival promotions they saw me designing THEN she gifted them with real, signed prints of her work. Sincerely, what a gift!! She has a heart of gold and I’m thrilled she is in my family of clients. Thank you, Christina! The Woodlands Arts Council
