🛑 CDK's hacker, BlackSuit, holds their system hostage for an 8-figure ransom 👉 leaving 15,000+ Auto Dealerships crippled and thousands more customers are feeling the impact for a week so far with no end in sight! ❌

While CDK Global is trying to get this attack under control, dealerships are struggling as their sales and operations software provided by CDK is down thus forcing analog, pen and paper solutions since the system outage last Tuesday, June 19th.

CDK says it’s working on restoring its systems and expects them to be back online in several days as it prepares to pay the hefty ransom price tag, but customers and dealership employees remain frustrated by long wait times, delays – and missed chances to make or save money.

Negative impacts so far:
1️⃣ Dealers can't apply factor rebates without CDK's software
2️⃣ Customer's leverage is limited
3️⃣ Vehicle can't be registered digitally. Must be in-person BUT RMV's are prohibiting walk-ins.
4️⃣ Parts inventory & ordering is now bottlenecked to pen/paper & increased man hours

Cyber and ransomware attacks are on the rise, and as we've seen with CDK Global, it can happen at any time.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of State offered $10 million in exchange for the identities of the HIVE ransomware gang, who have collected over $100 million as a result of their ransomware attacks.

😮 BIG NEWS - Cyber Attack Shuts Down Over15,000 Car Dealerships in U.S. & Canada!

CDK Global, a leading cloud-based company that provides auto dealerships across the U.S. with software for managing sales, payroll, inventory and other services, was hacked this past Tuesday evening.

As a result, most of its systems of their core dealer management system were temporarily shut down putting GM, BMW and 15,000 dealerships unable to process sales, service orders, etc.

Then, late in the evening of June 19, a second cyber "incident" occurred and just after restoring a portion of it's systems, CDK Global proactively shut everything down yet again as a precaution.

Because auto dealerships hold vast amounts of sensitive customer data, they are an attractive target for cyber attacks.

From credit applications to customer financial information, dealerships hold a "treasure of information" to hackers, according to a 2023 article from Zurich North America, insurance company.

"In addition, dealership systems are often interconnected to external interfaces and portals, such as external service providers" the report reads. And many dealerships "lack basic cyber security protections."

Did that stop many car dealerships from operation fully? No.

Many reverted to using pen, paper and sticky notes to process auto repairs and new vehicle sales, yet still crippled from processing the volume of tasks that are solely dependent on CDK's systems.

As of today, no hacker has taken credit and systems are still down with no known ETA on getting their systems back online.

These email scams are crafty and can look so close to a real email from Microsoft, Google, Facebook and many other familiar sources asking you to confirm your identity or click a link verify credentials. We've seen it all!

👉 Here are 3 Recommendations
Change your email password MONTHLY using a minimum combo of at least 8-12 alpha/numeric characters.
Report the email to your IT rep or IT department immediately
Never click any link within the email.
