After resigning from 10 years of employment at CPC this week, I walked away from a vast number of people who were taken aback, and deserve more than being ghosted.

To the drivers, I will miss you TERRIBLY. Many days, you were what kept me going; you brightened my days with your smiles, fist bumps, side hugs and waves. Even when you irritated me, I was secretly loving it 😂 Ensuring you had income in order to support your families gave me purpose and drove me to work harder. You made an impact on my life with your kindness and support and I will forever be grateful for you.

To the operators that encouraged me, looked out for my physical and emotional safety, listened to my dumb questions, shared jokes, and taught me more about pumps than I ever cared to know, I appreciate and respect you greatly. The insane hours you put in and the potentially dangerous situations do not go unnoticed. I pray for your safety and look forward to seeing some of you on the job again.

To the fellas at Team, your big grins and hello waves from mat foundations and elevated decks, making a point to trudge across a matrix of rebar to shake my hand and say hello, your acceptance means the world to me. Stay safe out there, and watch each other’s backs.

To my LAX peeps. Y’all know who you are. From supes to field engineers to the paving crew and everyone in between, those jobsites s t r e t c h e d my patience some nights 🧟‍♀️ yet I’m forever thankful for the experience (and maybe even for the trauma bond lol).

To my customers, you did not deserve the abruptness at which I left, and I am deeply sorry I could not inform you of my departure. The projects you awarded over the years afforded me so much professional and personal growth, and the friendships created through the past decade will carry on. This is not goodbye, because many of you I will see again.

To additional colleagues and confidants, I am not leaving the industry. I’ll see you again soon enough, and we can hopefully pick up where we left off.

sometimes I can’t believe this is my career 🖤🤍

when I started my career in ready mix, I thought I’d be stuck behind a desk doing admin tasks. the only female role models I saw worked in the office, and I knew very quickly that wasn’t for me.

it took a decade for me to find a job function that kept me interested and gave me purpose, and even then it was still behind a desk.

fast forward to 2011 when I was forced outside my comfort zone and into sales. skip ahead another 8 years to 2019 when I pivoted and showed up on jobsites more than I ever had before (and subsequently started showing up here a little more). it was uncomfortable at first, I fielded a lot of questions about my capabilities, and proved myself over time by continuing to show up when least expected.

I’ve spent more time on jobsites the past 3 years than the span of my entire ready mix career. and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it- even the days (&& nights) when I’m close to tears from the stress, exhausted from working triple shifts, and my feet numb from standing for hours on end.

I’m fortunate enough to have managers who allow me the space to do things differently than my predecessors and colleagues, so long as I achieve the primary purpose of my job function: sales.

I didn’t ask for permission when I changed my approach. I just did it. this year looks like another pivot, finding the sweet spot between pre- and post-2019 sales approaches.
