Our subject of the month for May is "Shoot through objects"! We have a small workshop at the beginning of our last camera club meeting led by Geoffry Faulkner. We reviewed some posts about shoot-through and looked for inspiration. Geoff brought a few props to have people try to take some pictures on their own and get started for their submission for May.

Here is one of the photos, the illustrious and most-photographed subject at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts -- "The vase". This photo was lit by a few small LED light cubes and photographed by shooting through a plastic bag with a hole cut out to provide the sharp subject in the middle.

What are your plans for Shoot Through for next month? The ideas we came up with are:

Plastic bag, cut open at lens to see subject clearly
Plastic wrap, spray with water to make micro-lenses on the wrap.
Foliage, find the gap. Bring foliage close, subject far. Foliage in shadow
Glass ball, prism, water glass, water bottle, fish bowl, eyeglasses, etc.
Magnifying glass
Paper, torn, cut
Empty picture frame
1" Copper pipe held up to lens

Our Tracy Art League "Expressions!" show opens to the public this coming weekend, and continues during evenings later in the week after.

We have 80+ artists exhibiting.
We have 200+ individual poeces - paintings, photography, graphic art, sculpture, and glass. Many of your fellow Camera Club members - Mike Hodges, Casey Goodall, Kathy Krueger, Chris Patterson, and likely others - are IN the show. I hope you'll come out and support the arts world in Tracy, and celebrate your fellow photographers!

We have a raffle drawing for some 30 donated pieces, that can be yours for a $5 ticket.

I hope you'll consider coming down to 950 East Avenue, Tracy - at the foot of the tall water tower. We have contributing artists staffing the greeting table throughout the show, and artists are always stopping by, too. You can engage them about "what IS art?" and learn of their particular contributions on display!

Best Wishes,

I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to the Camera Club members whose prints were accepted into the 2026 Expressions show!

If I may ask...
We are always needing assistance in staffing the greeting table during the show, helping receive the artwork on the Friday (2/6) afternoon and Saturday (2/7) before the show opens. We would very much welcome volunteers in setting up the infrastructure (gridwall panels, wooden panels, lights and cords, etc.

Once again, photography is the dominate medium to be included in the show. I will want to think those of you accepted have the willingness to pitch in and help make this a wonderful experience.

There is alway room for TCC photographers to join us as docents on school student tours, to offer your interest in art and image making to the next generation of artists.

Congratulations and I hope to see you involved! (reach out directly to me if interested, and I'll connect you to Tiffanie and Debbie).

Thank you...

Tracy Camera Club's instruction VP starts his 17th year of teaching classes at the Grand.

This is a "beginning" class, aimed at someone new or relatively new to a digital camera, like a single-lens, fully adjustable Canon or Nikon (or Sony, Fuji, Pentax, etc.) model.
