Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation has a new leader which calls for a meet and greet with supporters and the greater community. This event was an opportunity to meet the new leadership of the GRPS Foundation team, hear her mission/vision for GRPS Foundation, and mingle with community members.

To make sure the event was successful, it was important to inform, invite, and reinforce information through various design forms.

Hey friends! I have been MIA lately and here's why:

It was a joy working with Jones Creative Co. to develop a fun, bright, and adventurous style guide !!

While Jones Creative had a logo, a further brand development created a vision for marketing collateral ahead. A brand style guide was created with secondary logos, fonts, colors, and voice. This will be a great help when building a website, creating business cards, and customer proposals!

Thankful for family, friends, health. For God's goodness and faithfulness. And for clients who trust me with their brand and marketing vision.

I truly work with the best business owners and creatives around. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with each and every one of you.

Do you want to grow your brand? If not, keep on scrolling. If yes, slow your scroll friend!

It may seem like there is an overwhelming amount of advice when it comes to business growth. There is a lot involved but when it comes to your brand these are the top six things to keep in mind.

1️⃣ You want to know your audience. Speak their language. Know their pain points and help them find a solution.

2️⃣ Develop YOUR unique brand around YOUR target audience with YOUR messaging, visual elements, logo, materials, etc.

3️⃣ Build relationships with customers. Relationships are important and keep your customers coming back for more.

4️⃣ Quality. Quality. Quality. Where there is quality you can find retention and people wanting more of what you have or provide.

5️⃣ Social media can be your friend when you are consistent with your online presence. Use it!

6️⃣ Don’t be afraid to jump on what is trending. Play off of the trendds and take advantage of the potential reach.

Take it one step at a time and watch your brand grow✨

Many of you may not know the story of how Arise Design Co. came to be. Well friend, sit back, grab a cozy blanket and keep on scrolling. Because it’s been a crazy ride.

Year One. My business name was By Brianna Grace. I had a yellow sunshine theme. Crazy cool font. I cringe just thinking about it. I started by designing invitations and things for friends and family.

Year Two. Still called By Brianna Grace but with a baby blue color theme. Standard san serif bold font. No logo yet. I took on photography this year and built a portfolio website on a cookie-cutter website.

Year Three. Changed the name to Brianna Kerkstra because I wanted to change it but had no other idea what to call it. Navy and olive green became my colors. A logo is designed from the shapes of a camera. Circles, lines, rectangles. Cool right? Haha sure. Upgraded to a custom website.

Maybe someday I will share my past logo and brand creations for my own business but I will save that for another day…

Year Four. I took a little break from figuring out my own brand and working with some amazing clients. Photography was a big thing for me in the past years but I shifted to more marketing and design.

Year Five. Arise Design Co. was created. An updated website too. My passion to help small businesses align their brand image and messaging to their goals became my drive. And this is where I am at today.

As I learned more about what branding truly is, I knew I had to create a long-lasting name, logo, and vibe that fit not only my personality but the audience I wanted to work with.

The name 'Arise Design Co.' was built on inspiration and its definition.

In the Bible, Isaiah 60 says, “Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you”. I want everything I say and do for my clients to shine His light. It may not be noticeable through my website or social media but I want to show it through the relationship I build with clients. It’s a reminder to me each and every day to arise and shine for His glory.

By definition, arise means to come into being, to call to attention to, and to move upward. This is what I want to do with my client's brand and design strategies. I help them find a brand identity. Bring awareness to their services and elevate their marketing.

That’s my story. That’s my journey to this point in my business. And I would love for you to come along for the ride over the next five years!

Where are you at with your business?

1️⃣ You have a brain full of ideas but are overwhelmed with what step needs to happen next.

If someone told me a year ago I'd be HERE, I'd call them crazy for many reasons. Keep reading ⬇️

Last year I was anxious and unsure of what was next in life and in my business. Every day I would wake up with dread trying to find purpose amongst the chaos.

This year I have a direction I am working towards. So what changed?

I reached out to others for encouragement. I got a puppy. My daily routine changed. Found community in our new church family. I created daily, weekly, and quarterly goals.

The journey to the place of healing and growth didn’t happen by chance but with the help of so many others. It has been the best part of the past year.

By no means do I have it all figured out but I want to encourage you to do the thing! Sign up for the event. Join the team. Start the business. Go on that trip. Adopt that pet. Do the thing that scares you.
