It’s not Miami. But it’s home.

In 2015 the first step into business ownership wasn’t scary but it wasn’t pretty either.

In 2020 debt freedom opened some doors…

I never imagined leaving my home state of VA.

But the option was never available…

Creating a successful business and becoming financially stable allowed us to make a VALUE based choice to move to a sunny location, closer to water & around the people we want our kids to grow up with!

The Passion myth.

Who was told growing up that they had to follow their passion?

I know I was and I’m very fortunate to have picked in industries that allow me to work with other people because I definitely love the company of people…

However, things that I’m passionate about [FAMILY HEALTH FRIENDS] are not things I can or want to monetize….

I don’t think the person sitting behind a desk is truly passionate about desks and computer programs

If they’re truly being honest, it provides money so they can do the things they enjoy and help the people they love

I’m sure they’re one off who really are passionate about what they do …. But statistics show that nearly 80% of people are not happy with their careers.

If that’s the case, why do so many people follow this archaic advice of pursuing their passion?

Instead, why don’t we all pursue something that provides us with the time and money we need to be with the ones we love and do the things we love

It might seem oversimplified …. But remember in most cases, your purpose is not your passion.

As parents we make a point to have at least ONE on ONE time with each kid at least 2X per month.

Hey, I want quick results for a business. What should I do?

Lose the word QUICK and read this for starters ⬇️⬇️

1. Read 2 books a month
2. Listen to podcasts regularly
3. Attend networking events regularly
4. Take the first step, followed by about 50,000 more steps
5. Associate with the right people who stretch you
6. Increase your fitness levels
7. Set a HUGE financial goal

^^^ Ok so this is somewhat common knowledge but knowing is only one side of the coin, doing is the OTHER.

On top of all that... I started all my side hustles/business endeavors in 2015 with zero experience. In 2017, I felt like I was going nowhere fast... but we at least had a debt payoff goal.

2018... still felt like things were going slow (but tons of effort) and hey we had knocked out about 100,000 in student loan debt

2019... weird year but our skills were growing and we kept our eye on the prize (paying off $300,000 in debt)...

2020... COVID hits, and things TAKE off...

But did they take off... or was it the result of 1,000s of micro-actions?

The moral of the story... all overnight success is the byproduct of many hours working in the dark!

Don't be an ALICE:

Why not?

For starters, you have ZERO Tax Leverage, especially around retirement age. Two, you will never beat inflation. Three, you have to own a business if you want to afford eggs. 🥚🍳

What is one reason you struggle to prioritize time?

For me, it is micro distractions like my phone, watch alerts, and email. My struggle is real, so I use browser blockers, remove social media apps from my phone, and leave my phone in the other room.

What tips do you wish you knew more to prevent these distractions?

When you start an entrepreneurial journey (or set any new goal for that matter) you will go through this ECOC...

How you make it to Stage 4 and ultimately Stage 5 really boils down to two things IMO:

1. Your attention to systems and a process, not results
2. Who you are talking to and engaging with (are they encouraging or discouraging you)

Focus on KPIs daily for any goal

For example, a simple health target of consuming 1g of protein per desirable bodyweight is easily measurable and trackable. The result (stage 5) will come after you consistently meet your target. Don't let short term results or emotions get in the way!
