Another day with more concerns on my work, so I wanted to share some educational information for people who may be looking to work with a designer to create a personalized brand to represent their business.
This logo has been my current work in progress (roughly 12 hours so far... very detailed merle!) so while the finished design is not available to see, the step by step process is.
When I begin to work with a client I send them a Questionnaire to fill out that reviews design preferences, styles, font styles, colors, and more. This is when I learn what you may want to be looking for in a design, even if you are not sure yourself.
Using images of your own animals, I develop rough sketches (3-5 on average) of some design concepts. These set are especially rough, as you can tell by the crumpled paper (it didn't travel in my computer bag well... whoops!). Then off those sketches I take notes from your input and develop a more detailed and accurate design, and we build forward from there.
Once in Illustrator, you will see every step. Colors. Fonts. Line detail. You name it. We adjust, customize, and make it exactly as you dreamed until you are 110% satisfied. Once completed you get every design file, multiple formats, branding sheet, and an online shop with your design available to you.
If your designer can't provide proof of all of their work, question your designer. In the below sample you can see my layer panel with every line, every group, and every part that makes this design a Meghann Leigh Creative LLC original.
I have had prospective clients come to me with designs they like, and have been flat asked, "Can you copy this?". The answer is no.
No, I will not copy another clients work.
No, I will not copy another designers work.
When my logos get too saturated in a single breed market, or if someone wants something too similar to another design, do you know what I do?
Turn away the project.
Work with someone who cares about their art, is passionate about their art, and can provide you a design that is just as unique and fabulous as you are. ❤
