I don't know if you kept up with the whole Anthropic lawsuit, or if you've read any of the stories of college kids being WRONGLY accused of turning in AI-written papers, but the AI boom has very real legal ramifications for writers. Prevailing wisdom in the self-pubbing biz used to be that you didn't *need* to officially copyright your book, but that it served as an "additional layer of legal protection."

Well now you NEED to officially copyright your books, people, so here's how.

You own the copyright to your book the moment you write it. Learn how to register your claim and add a copyright notice for full legal protection.

Damon and the rest of the Damonza team are, to coin a phrase, awesome con carne. They're great to to work with, affordable, fast, and their designs are not only gorgeous, but current--and for those of you saying how you hate trendy book covers, good luck selling books without them. Because a really good book cover HAS to play to trends, or when it's next to other books that do, it's going to look odd and out of place, even if the book browser can't put their finger on why. AND, like they teach you in every single form of artistic expression, from painting to dance, if you want to subvert norms and expectations, first you have to know what they are. Otherwise you're not breaking rules to effect, you're just demonstrating your ignorance. It's not a fresh take unless you do it on purpose.

Every year I write one of these, and every year the same thing happens. People look for predictions. What’s coming next. What’s new. But book cover design doesn’t really work that way. If you look back at my previous trend articles for 2023, 2024, and 2025, you’ll see a pattern. Trends don.....

I just signed up for this, and if you're wondering how it works without accessing any personal information, when you enable it on Chrome, it swaps out the ads you'd already be shown for their sponsors' ads. It may get annoying down the road, but for now it seems pretty slick!
