I’m a big proponent of making lemonade from lemons, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do during the last year, with different at-home activities that are more than just sitting down and watching whatever I’m binging for the 1000th time on Netflix.
I think these are ideas we could even carry with us after this pandemic too. Sometimes it’s just easier to stay in, or you want to save a little money by not going out. So here are my short list of fun ideas for a night in.
virtual game night - hop on your preferred video calling service (zoom, discord), have someone pick a game and have them share their screen. some game ideas include Jackbox, Jeopardy, or even Tabletop Simulator. there are tons of free games available too.
youtube walking wine tour - with a friend, roommate, partner, or maybe even just yourself, pick out a bottle of wine (or any spirit of your choice) (or two) and while drinking it, try to find a walking tour video of the area the wine/spirit is from on youtube. it can feel immersive and like a fun little way to maybe learn more about what you’re drinking.
painting - this one is simple and easy! grab a canvas, brushes, paints, easel, and start painting! you can draw inspiration from anything you want. if you’re painting with someone, maybe challenge each other to paint something and surprise each other at the end.
quiz building - using Kahoot or services like it, you can make custom quizzes and then present them to anyone who can guess the answers on their device. you can build a quiz about your family and see who remembers the most wacky moments from vacations past, or build one about your friends and see who remembers the most random facts about each other.
multi restaurant meal - this is a great one to help support local businesses. you can do this alone or with a partner, friend, roommate, whoever. how many courses in your meal is up to you. pick a different restaurant for each course. You can try to craft it so the meal fits or go completely different for each course. It’s a fun way to support local and try new and different things!
