🦟 Make your backyard a mosquito-free zone! 🌿☀️

There’s nothing better than relaxing on the patio after a long day—until mosquitoes arrive and turn your peaceful evening into a battle of swats and itchy bites. Beyond being a nuisance, mosquitoes can also carry disease, so keeping their populations under control matters.

Our expert contributor, Patriot Pest Solutions, has some simple ways to make your property less inviting to mosquitoes:

💧 Eliminate standing water: Birdbaths, plant saucers, toys, buckets, wheelbarrows, clogged gutters, tarps, and even something as small as a bottle cap can hold enough water for mosquitoes to breed. Empty or turn over water-holding items regularly, and refresh birdbaths every 2–3 days.

🌱 Keep your landscaping maintained: Mosquitoes love cool, shady areas. Regularly mow your lawn, trim shrubs and hedges, remove tall weeds, prune overgrown landscaping, and clear leaves and yard debris to reduce their hiding spots.

🌧️ Check your drainage: After a heavy rain, look for puddles that stick around. Low spots, compacted soil, clogged drainage areas, and overflowing gutters can all create mosquito breeding sites.

🧹 Don’t forget the gutters: Leaves and debris can trap water for weeks, making clogged gutters one of the most overlooked mosquito hotspots around your home.

💨 Turn on a patio fan: Mosquitoes are weak fliers, so a little extra airflow can make it harder for them to land—and help keep you cool, too!

⛲ Keep water features moving: Pumps, fountains, waterfalls, and aerators can discourage mosquitoes from laying eggs in ponds and decorative water gardens.

And when good yard maintenance isn’t enough, professional seasonal mosquito treatments can provide additional relief by targeting adult mosquitoes and disrupting breeding cycles.

Some families keep busy. The Talley family takes “busy” to a whole new level! 🏀🥍🏑📚❤️

Meet Chris and Tara Talley—a Royersford couple, educators, athletes, parents of five, and proud members of the Spring-Ford community. From classrooms and coaching to countless games, practices and family adventures, these two are always juggling something (and somehow making it look easy!).

Both Chris and Tara are educators with master’s degrees, and both are Alvernia University Hall of Famers. Their five children—Rella, Rylee, Rowan, Remi and Redick—keep the family calendar packed with everything from lacrosse and field hockey to basketball, baseball, flag football and more. ⚾️🏀🥍

But the Talleys’ story goes far beyond sports and school. From raising their family in the neighborhood Tara grew up in, to giving back through Tara’s surrogacy journeys, they’re building a life centered around family, friendship, community and giving to others.

Home is Providence Pond, where their kids proudly call their friend group “The Pond Squad.” Whether they’re cheering from the sidelines, gathering for dinner on the porch, relaxing on the patio or making memories at the beach, the Talleys are embracing every busy, beautiful moment.

🐾 Meet Daisy Grace!

Daisy Grace and her brother were rescued through 1 Love for Animals, and when Dave and Sharon met Daisy, they were instantly captivated by her happy nature and playful energy. Just four days later, she was riding home to her forever family! 🏡❤️

A mix of Shiba Inu, Corgi, and possibly Labrador, Daisy is full of personality. She loves playing outside in the grass, chasing anything that moves, and even carrying her water bowl around—making it nearly impossible to find!

And one thing is certain: Daisy absolutely loves people. It sounds like this sweet rescue pup found exactly where she belongs! 🐶💗

What happens when a community comes together to honor the people who serve it? Something pretty incredible. 🇺🇸

The Montgomery County Hero Fund was created to make sure the sacrifices of our first responders are never forgotten—and that their families have support when tragedy strikes.

The recent Fore the Heroes Charity Golf Outing, hosted by Menninger & Associates Financial Planning at Brookside Country Club, brought together 24 teams and 95 golfers for a day filled with friendly competition, great food, community, and giving back.

And the biggest win? 🙌 Over the first five years, the outing has raised more than $80,000, including over $16,000 this year alone thanks to the incredible support of 48 local business sponsors!

From the golf course to the putting green, the event was a celebration of generosity and a powerful reminder of what can happen when local businesses and community members rally behind a meaningful cause. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success—and to the Montgomery County Hero Fund for continuing to stand behind the heroes who stand behind us.

🦷A FAMILY DENTIST WITH FAMILY ROOTS! 🦷

For generations, families in Royersford have walked through the wooden doors of The Royersford Family Dentist—and for Dr. Robert Funk (Robert J. Funk, DDS), dentistry has always been about much more than teeth. It’s about people, community, and helping every patient feel at home. 🏡

Located in the charming red-brick house at Summer & 4th Avenue, Dr. Funk brings “big city dentistry” to small-town Royersford, offering everything from crowns, implants and dentures to pediatric dentistry.

And the roots run deep! Dr. Funk joined his father, Dr. Richard Funk, in the family practice after dental school, eventually taking over when his father passed away in 1991. Today, it’s a true second-generation practice where patients who once came as children now bring their own kids. ❤️

From choosing your music and a comfy neck pillow to grabbing a stuffed animal for a little extra comfort, the team goes the extra mile to make dental visits feel a little less stressful—and a lot more welcoming.

Dr. Funk’s philosophy is simple: educate patients, protect your teeth, and help you make the decisions that are right for your smile. 🪥✨

As Dr. Funk says, “Prepare for the future.” And just like gardening, taking care of problems early can help keep your whole garden—err, smile!—healthy for years to come. 🌿😁

💙 Want to learn more about Dr. Funk, his family’s incredible history in Royersford, and the team behind this longtime local practice? Check out the full story in this month’s Upper Providence Living!

Upper Providence, this is what community is all about.

When a local mom found herself in every parent's worst nightmare—her toddler locked inside a hot car with her keys and phone—one neighbor didn't hesitate to step in.

👏 Meet Neighborhood Hero David Gambone of Collegeville. David stayed calm, called for help, and even worked alongside responding officers to safely get the child out when every second counted. His quick thinking, kindness, and willingness to help a complete stranger made all the difference.

His advice is something we can all live by: "Be nice to each other. It goes a long way. Hold the door open, help with a cart, lend a hand when someone needs it." ❤️

Stories like David's remind us that the heart of Upper Providence isn't just the beautiful neighborhoods—it's the people who show up for one another.

✨ Know someone in our community who's always lending a helping hand? Tag them below and help us celebrate the everyday heroes who make Upper Providence such a special place!

Be sure to check out this month's issue of Upper Providence Living to read David's full inspiring story.

Our expert contributor, Evansburg Vineyards, is uncorking the science (and artistry!) behind barrel aging in this month's issue. From hand-crafted oak barrels to the vineyard's stunning barrel room, there's a whole world of winemaking happening behind the scenes.
