For the past two weeks, our team has been supporting Eagle Point Resort following the devastating Cottonwood Fire in Beaver County, Utah.
The fire caused extensive damage across the region. At Eagle Point Resort, approximately 300 acres of ski terrain were impacted, the Canyonside Lodge was destroyed, multiple chairlifts were damaged, and 145 families lost their condominium or home within the Eagle Point community.
In moments like these, effective crisis communications matter.
Shortly after the fire, Eagle Point Resort asked our team to provide crisis communications support, and we mobilized quickly. Since then, we have worked alongside resort leadership to manage significant media interest, develop proactive communications as damage assessments began, coordinate media access with incident command, and conduct media training for key spokespersons for interviews and public updates.
As recovery efforts continue, we've also had the opportunity to support the launch of BeaverTUF.org, a nonprofit foundation established to address recovery needs not covered by insurance or government assistance.
Now, as the resort transitions from immediate response to long-term recovery, our focus shifts as well. Beyond communicating updates and milestones, our role is to help ensure the rebuilding process is shared with accuracy, transparency, and care. We're also helping tell the stories that emerge from moments like these - the heroes who protected lives, the partners who stepped up to help, the ski industry organizations rallying around Eagle Point, and the resilience that will define this community long after the headlines fade.
This isn't the first time our team has supported an organization through a crisis, nor the first time we've helped a resort navigate the impacts of a major fire. One lesson continues to stand out - crisis communications doesn't end when the immediate incident is over. Recovery requires the same commitment to transparency, trust, and clear communication. As communities rebuild, the stories people tell and the information they rely on become just as important as the first headlines.
Disasters test organizations in unimaginable ways, but they also reveal the strength of leadership, community, and partnership. We are grateful for the trust Eagle Point Resort has placed in our team and inspired by the many people working to help Beaver County recover and rebuild.
