Quality Roasting

Quality Roasting Producing high quality soybean products for the feed & food industries. Quality Roasting, Inc.

was established in 1991 to meet the need and high demand for high quality soybean products in cattle diets. Our original roasting facility was built with 4,000 bushel of storage space. Today we have grown to over 2,000,000 bushel of storage space and employee 20 people between our two Wisconsin facilities. In 2000, we developed Exceller Meal®, an expeller soybean meal product that is high in by-pa

ss protein. Exceller Meal® is the ingredient choice of dairy nutritionists and producers when formulating diets for high producing dairy cows. Exceller Meal® has been scientifically tested to meet or exceed performance standards of other nationally recognized soybean meal products. In addition to superior products, convenience and savings, we provide professional marketing services to local producers and manufacturers. Our forward contracting program guarantees producer pricing and ensures the quality and timeliness of product deliveries. We also custom process soybeans and trade raw soybeans for processed soybeans.

Our employee spotlight series continues! 🌟
We’re highlighting more of the long-time team members who help keep Quality Roasting running every day.

🌟 Tyler Herzog – 14 Years
Director of Plant Operations

Tyler has been a valued part of our team for 14 years and currently serves as our Director of Plant Operations. If something needs fixing, improving, or reworking you can count on him to be right in the middle of it.

Here’s how Tyler describes his role:
“Around the plant, you’ll often find me fixing old junk, fixing new junk, and everything in between! I make sure we have all the parts necessary to keep the plant running. I am always looking for ways to improve our machines and make the process easier to operate.”

Outside of work, Tyler stays just as busy. He enjoys driving old cars and “playing farmer,” growing 35 acres of corn and 35 acres of soybeans each year. Most importantly, he loves spending time with his wife, Kristen, and their four kids: Landon, Breckin, Olivia, and Lux.

We’re lucky to have Tyler’s dedication, creativity, and hands-on expertise as part of our team and we appreciate everything he contributes each day!

Thank you, Tyler, for all your hard work over the years!!

🌟 Bob Olson – 13 Years

AABP Have You Herd? Podcast – High Oleic Acid Soybeans for Dairy Cow Diets

AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Adam Lock, professor of dairy nutrition in the Department of Animal Sciences at Michigan State University. This podcast is brought to you by the AABP Nutrition Committee.

Soybeans and soybean meal products are an important source of protein and fat for dairy cow diets. Soybeans are typically 38-42% crude protein and 15-20% fat. The fat in conventional soybeans is 50-55% linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) which can suppress milk fat production if fed at high levels. Roasting soybeans is common on dairy farms to increase the amount of bypass protein (RUP).

High oleic fat soybeans have more recently been fed as a soybean source in dairy cattle diets. The primary advantage of these soybeans are that they have the same percentage of fat (20%) but the fatty acid profile is 75-80% oleic acid. Oleic acid does not directly suppress milk fat production since it is a monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA). This allows us to safely feed a higher energy diet to cows. Lock suggests that we can target high producing or early lactation cows with these soybeans to provide more energy. These beans can result in higher production, higher milk fat and may have positive effects on health and immunity.

Lock provides some general guidelines for incorporating high oleic acid soybeans in dairy cattle diets. They can be included at 8-12% of diet dry matter for roasted ground beans. Cows do not need a step-up period to incorporate these into the diet and an expected response should be seen in 7-10 days. Diets should be reformulated to account for this added fat and Lock states that many times other fat sources are removed, but some palm fats can be utilized with these beans for a better fat profile. Other protein sources, such as blood meal, can be adjusted.
