"𝗜 𝗔𝗠 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬": Some voices don’t fade with time. They echo louder when the moment demands it.

In 2012, I had the honor of interviewing civil rights icon the Rev. 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐨𝐧, founder of the 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐰/𝐏𝐔𝐒𝐇 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and two-time presidential candidate.

As we reflect on his death on Feb. 17, 2026, at age 84 in Chicago, I revisited our powerful conversation. And, I’m struck by how relevant his words remain.

From voter suppression and the death of Trayvon Martin, to racial profiling, the power of the ballot, equal pay under the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and the national campaign between Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, the Rev. Jackson spoke candidly about justice, leadership and whether America was on the brink of deeper racial unrest.

His message was clear: "𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚."

Seven years ago on Valentine’s Day, I made a split-second decision that changed my life.

After being abducted, I threw myself from a moving vehicle traveling at least 55 mph. I hit the pavement, rolled, and somehow found the strength to stand – and run toward safety.

That experience reshaped how I understand resilience.

Resilience isn’t just about surviving trauma. It’s about what you do after the fall. It’s the ability to get back up when the road knocks you down – whether that road is personal crisis, professional disappointment, leadership pressure, a failed venture, or an unexpected transition.

In our careers and in our lives, we all face moments that feel high-speed and out of control. The question isn’t whether we’ll hit the pavement. The question is: Will we rise?
