If your words move people, they can also damage them.
Proverbs 13:17 (NKJV)
A wicked messenger falls into trouble,
But a faithful ambassador brings health.
This verse didn’t inspire me at first, but instead it confronted me.
I used to blame circumstances. Other people. Being “misunderstood.” BUT the truth was simpler. My words were reckless.
I spoke from ego, frustration, and unhealed places, and it caused lots of damage.
Many people have told me straight to my face, “Your words carry weight.”
That wasn’t a compliment, it was a warning!
When your words carry weight and you don’t control them, you don’t just speak.
You wound, divide, and destroy.
I’m still not perfect and never will be, but I’m no longer as careless as I once was.
I’m now intentionally patiently putting in the time and doing the work. Slowing down. Taking responsibility for what comes out of my mouth because I finally understand this:
There are no such thing as harmless words.
Every sentence builds or breaks something.
Every time you open your mouth, you’re an ambassador.
For your ego, or for something better.
Question is: Are YOU Building or Destroying???
Choose wisely.
