one of my sweet spring mini sessions from last weekend + I’m so happy to have gotten to hangout at 🤩

mini sessions are truly some of my fav things to book — simply because I have such loyal, wonderful clients who come back on a yearly basis. It’s a lot of “oh my gosh, the kids are so big!!!” & hugs after a year of not really seeing eachother & it’s just such a special lil community that has followed along with my art for the last 6 years now.

so whether you are new, old or somewhere in between — this is genuinely a dream to get to photograph your life & I love love love what I do so much 🥹

Let me set the scene for you with a client scenario that happens ROUGHLY 400 times a season for me.

It’s June. The sun is setting at 8pm. Everyone typically books golden hour, so the majority of the locations I present to my clients (hehe on thank u so much for making this easy peasy) are flattering at that time of the day! Buuuuut, I get someone who yes, has tiny humans who turn quickly into gremlins when it’s past their bedtimes. They ask the question with the slight fear of having crappy photos in their eyes:

“Do we have to shoot at golden hour? We have a toddler & their bedtime is at 7pm.”

Nope! Golden hour is my most popular session time, but would I even be this profesh if that’s the only time I shot at? Let’s go over the three times of the day that we could schedule your shoot at, and hopefully reassure you that good photos are not out of reach for those with tiny humans & their 7pm bedtimes!

🌄 Sunrise/morning light offer similar soft light to golden hour, fewer crowds, and cooler temps (especially in summer), making them suuuuuch an underrated option.

☀️ Midday light (think 11am–3pm) is typically harsher, brighter, and creates stronger shadows — which can be GREAT for certain shady locations with tons of tree coverage or indoor sessions with lots of natural light, but not always ideal for that soft, glowy look most people want!

🌅 Golden hour (about 1-2 hours before sunset) gives you that warm, dreamy light with softer shadows and more flattering skin tones (& which is why it’s the most requested session time)

You always get final say — but trust me when we choose your session time — I’m not just picking a random hour on the calendar!! I’m looking at your location, season, lighting conditions, and the overall vibe you want your photos to have. You don’t have to shoot in perfect, golden-hour light to get amazing photos — it all depends on what kind of look you’re going for, and I’m ready to walk you through that ❤️

I’m currently BOOKED the heck up for May! What!! June is nearly full, and the rest of the summer is open for sessions ☀️ Head to the link in my bio to snag your date today.

I feel qualified to speak on this, because there are so many postpartum opinions that float around the internet & after experiencing postpartum & getting to learn from & her amazing course on hospitality (which I 10000% believe you need to invest in because it changed my life & how I view others) — it is our duty to make others feel loved, cared for, and seen in their most vulnerable state.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

🌷 Don’t say “let me know if you need anything” — she’s not going to let you know lol, ask her WHEN would be a good time to bring food/offer specific help and let her decide what feels good/if she’s ready for support from there. Things like:

“I’m dropping off coffee at 9 and taking your trash bins out.”

“I’m free Thursday to fold laundry and vacuum.”

“Text me your grocery list by 5 today & I’ll porch drop it later this evening.”

🌷 Bring her a hot meal & porch drop it — she doesn’t have to worry about what her house looks like if you come inside (and it’s probably not too great considering she’s got a newborn rn, okay)

🌷 Setup a playdate with older siblings — pick those kiddos up & bring them back fed, happy & ready to chill with mom (because you’ve tuckered them out hehe) — bonus points if you scoop up her laundry/bring her a coffee before you leave with the kids!

🌷 Make plans & put something on the calendar when she’s ready to get out of the house — again, be specific! Give her a few options. Less decisions for her brain. If she says she isn’t ready — ask if a house visit would feel better or follow up to see when she will be ready! The follow up is KEY for a new mom :)

🌷 Watch for specific signs of baby blues/PPD/PPA — this comes on quickly & our close friends/family have to be the first line of defense when the mental health of a postpartum mother is involved. I’ve linked in my bio, please read there for more resources on what to look for specifically ❤️

Every mom is different! The key is to be active, be present & persistent with maki

May is maternal mental health month — and truthfully, I’ve never had an awareness month that I’ve really connected with until I had Dean (18 months ago 😭)

I have spent 18 long, beautiful, chaotic, confusing, sanctifying, overwhelmingly full of love, and full of healing months as a mom & have experienced the depths of postpartum depression like I know so many moms have in my life.

We say that “motherhood takes a village” — but what does that really mean?

One really crucial piece of being a villager is paying attention to your loved ones & friends as they experience postpartum & to look for signs of depression, anxiety or other mood disorders that could be triggered by the insane hormone drop of having a baby. Providing emotional support is one thing, but actionable support to help the mothers in your life manage their bodies after having a child is a duty of every single human being.

Don’t just text & ghost after someone gives birth — please please show loving care & ACTION to support someone in a well rounded way. I will be sharing local resources for postpartum support over the coming month ❤️

I am launching an INSANE giveaway this Wednesday, May 6th, in honor of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day — so click “remind me” on the countdown attached to this post!

Motherhood is the best gift I’ve ever been given & the one thing that has kept me at the feet of Jesus for the last 18 months. I truly give Him all of the glory for my healing & I am so excited for this giveaway to reach a newly postpartum mom ❤️ much love

One sweet year of parenthood goes by in the blink of an eye —

There’s really nothing like bringing a baby into the world; motherhood has been the greatest joy of my life, and it’s such a treat getting to watch friends become parents & experience it for themselves 🥹

Happy 1st birthday, Georgia!! 🍑 you have the BEST parents

Three (actually, four hehe) of my favorite humans!! How SPECIAL it has been to photograph them as their family has grown over the last few years - and just reframes why I love photography so much. One-time clients are special, but YEARS worth of photos for a family is unreal. Thank you Jesus for lasting relationships.

This session made me think of summertime & smelling like bug spray & evenings outside watching my son run around with our dogs. My favorite time of year 🙂

If you LOVE this spot, stay tuned for some minis that are going to be launching later this summer in their wildflower patch! For those of you who can't wait, click the link below to inquire for June ❤️

ITCHING to go back to days where sessions looked like this — summer is upon us, friends!!

I loved shooting with this family (so much I’m still posting about it a year later, LOL) — it was so easy, there was no expectations, no stress — just a sweet little family spending the evening together & just being open to getting a little sandy/wet with their toddler.

If you’re seeing this — it’s your sign to book the sunset session & I promise letting your toddler splash in some waves (in their clothes, of course) isn’t as eye-twitching as it sounds. This little guy had the best time 🥹

Let’s do it again this summer pls???
