The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in Wednesday night.

The assault occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of East Vista Way. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 29-year-old female was walking to her vehicle when a stranger ran up behind her and sexually assaulted her.

The woman fought back and was eventually able to escape from the suspect. Authorities described the suspect as a man believed to be 20 years old, standing about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He was wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask at the time of the assault. His race is unknown, and investigators said there are no other known physical identifiers.

Detectives responded to the scene and canvassed the surrounding area for additional witnesses and evidence. Investigators believe the suspect was a stranger to the victim and are now asking anyone who may have information that could help identify or locate him to come forward.

🎞️ VISTA THEN & NOW: THE AVO THEATRE 🍿

If these walls could talk…

Right in the heart of Downtown Vista at 303 Main Street stands one of Vista’s most recognizable historic treasures — the AVO Theatre.

The AVO opened its doors in 1948 as a movie theater, built on what had once been an avocado grove. That’s where the name “AVO” came from! 🥑

Designed by renowned theater architect S. Charles Lee, the original theater was a striking geodesic-dome/Quonset-hut-style building with around 800 seats — more than twice the size of today’s auditorium.

For generations of Vista families, the AVO was THE place to go for a Saturday movie, a date night, or a night out with friends. Imagine walking down Main Street in the 1950s or 1960s, grabbing a movie ticket and settling into those old theater seats. 🍿🎬

Today, the historic building lives on as the AVO Playhouse, now a 385-seat performing arts venue. The City of Vista purchased and restored the theater in 1995, giving this beloved piece of Vista history a new life.

THEN: Movies, popcorn, Saturday afternoons & a growing little Vista community.

NOW: Live performances, local events, theater and a beautiful reminder of where Vista came from.

A Vista favorite is saying goodbye… 💙🍔

After more than 20 years of serving our community, Chili Coast Burgers has announced they’ll be closing their doors on July 29.
