I am going to attempt to give a synopsis of our opportunity with hydrogen. I will also include the link so you can check it out for yourself!
H2theFuture: Louisiana's Competitive Advantage
Our state has been a player in energy innovation ever since the first submersible drilling rig made its debut in the Gulf of Mexico. For six decades, this region has been the lifeblood of the country's offshore oil and gas industry, earning Louisiana the prestigious title of an "energy state."
Unfortunately, this historical reliance on hydrocarbons has led to some dark clouds. With a staggering loss of nearly 22,000 oil and gas jobs between 2001 and 2020, Louisiana has faced the harsh reality of change (Emsi). Fear not, chance favors the prepared! Or maybe it's better to be lucky than good! :0)
"What makes Louisiana so special in the world of green hydrogen?"
Louisiana boasts the highest per capita demand for hydrogen in the U.S. (second highest on an aggregate basis), consuming an impressive 30% of the country's industrial hydrogen. That's a lot of hydrogen!
But wait, there’s more! Louisiana is also home to a dense hydrogen pipeline system, the largest port complex in the Western Hemisphere, and an offshore wind energy potential that ranks fourth in the U.S. (NREL). This makes us a hydrogen hot spot!
Louisiana stands poised to embrace a brighter, greener future as an energy state of the 21st century. With its competitive advantages and the potential of green hydrogen, South Louisiana is ready to write the next chapter in its storied energy history.
