I always get questions about marketing & branding and what strategy looks like across these areas bc it can be damn confusing with how they all bleed together.

In simplest terms, this is the order of importance and how you should dive in👇

Brand strategy > marketing strategy > content strategy > social strategy

The most important lesson here: you can’t do social before defining your brand. (!!)

And you have to make sure social aligns with the overall content strategy (bc you shouldn’t be operating in a silo) and that content strategy has to make sense and align with your overall marketing strategy.

And yes, you need to know your brand foundations before you start marketing if you really want to make an impact.

And one more time for the people in the back…

Until you understand the message your brand is trying to communicate, who it’s trying to reach, and why someone would choose you over the countless alternatives available to them, you’re not ready to invest in social media marketing.

Because social media doesn’t fix a lack of clarity. It amplifies what already exists.

And if YOUR confused, your audience will be too.

You’re often better off investing those dollars into brand strategy first so you can gain clarity around your positioning, messaging, audience, and differentiation - that way every piece of content, campaign, and marketing decision moving forward supports the bigger picture.

“Why isn’t my content working?” 

uhhhh, idk babe maybe because you’re using social media like a creator and optimizing for the individual platform, not your brand????

Strategic content for your business goes far beyond social media.

It doesn’t start there and it doesn’t end there. Social is only one tiny piece of the marketing puzzle, and until you figure that part out, you’ll stay stuck consistently posting with nothing to show for it other than a full feed.

They just can’t be the majority of your social content strategy or you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Unpopular opinion, but I’m not impressed when someone says they’re starting something new. 🙈

I’m impressed when you keep at it even when it feels like everything is rooting against you.

When nothing about what you’re doing is shiny.

When most people would throw in the towel and say “it’s too hard” or “this must not be for me.”

Then and only then will I give you the kudos you deserve because THAT is when you’ll see the results from starting something new.

And unfortunately many people quit before they ever get to that point. 🤷🏻‍♀️
