My two personal pet peeves with most content advice on this damn app:

1️⃣ everyone is obsessed with hooks
2️⃣ everyone is obsessed with editing tips and tricks

And while those are both important aspects to your content, everyone’s skirting around the bigger issue at play…

The f*ck you tryna say? To who? And why? What’s the goal here????

Because “optimization” on its own will not help you if the substance within your content doesn’t exist.

🤍 Example A: you have an incredible hook… but you lose your audience‘s attention immediately after the first three seconds so while you got the view and your metrics look shiny on IG, the content is not actually supporting your business.

🤍 Example B: your editing is fun and engaging, and you get people to stay past the first three seconds…. But you don’t give your audience any reason to go explore more.

Capturing (and retaining) attention isn’t the only thing you should be after.

Objectively “good” content supports your greater marketing funnel…. Not just your “fame“ in the Instagram algorithm.

So before you start screenshotting hook formulas and saving all those video editing techniques…back tf up and ask yourself why you’re creating content in the first place and once you know why you’re creating the thing, you can get to the point really damn fast.

Things to think about:

👀 what’s the goal for this individual post on social??

👀 who you tryna reach and what do those specific people need to hear from you in order for them to take the next logical step??

👀 what actually is the next frickin logical step you want people to take???

👀 and is it CLEAR and easy for people to take that next logical step???

All that? MUCH more important to obsess over FIRST.

Then branch into obsessing about hooks and edits if you must.

So uhhh quick question 😌 why is the norm for most business owners to stop all marketing when you’re booked and busy and then panic post once your leads dry up?

That just seems a little backwards, doesn’t it?

And TRUST ME I get that when you’re booked and busy….. you’re f*cking busy.

But the only way to avoid that horribly draining feast and famine cycle is to ✨consistently market your business✨

Go figure, right?🤪

But then we hit another hurdle:

“What the hell do I talk about when I can’t just send people somewhere to learn more and buy?”

And that’s what this post is all about. 🙃

Because you’re far too talented to start diluting your value, settling for red flag clients, or lowering your prices just because there’s a gap in your schedule you need to fill.

So if you wanna avoid getting into that ‘freakin out’ position altogether, these are the steps I would take today, while you’re still booked & busy ➡️

I love seeing a post pop off with tons of views and new followers as much as the next girl.

But I also know the metrics that *really* matter are: link clicks, profile visits, and conversations happening in the DMs.

Because if you sell a time-intensive 1:1 service, you don’t need 10,000 strangers knocking on your door.

Think about it. Even if just 2% of the 200 people who views your post converted into clients, you’d have a decent monthly client roster.

So instead of stressing over the views and followers, pay attention to the content that generates link clicks, profile visits, and other indications that you’ve sparked real curiosity and your people are actively leaning in, eager to discover more.

And if you need a hand creating Instagram content that does just that? I’m currently booking Social Strategy & Content Support clients for November 🤗

Drop your content questions in the comments 👇👇👇 and I swear if any you ask how to go viral, you will be blocked because THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT IF YOU ARE A BUSINESS OWNER 📢

You just need to reach the *right* audience with *relevant* information so they are interested enough to take the next logical step.

Period. The end. Doesn’t matter if it’s viral or not. That’s the job. Get people interested. Build trust. And inspire them to take the next logical step.

Friendly reminder that profitable marketing campaigns are planned well in advance ☺️

A successful campaign is never just a campaign, it’s all the pre-work building up to that moment.

If the only time you show up is when you want to sell something, your audience feels that.

That’s why I love content marketing… you show up and serve your audience every damn day. You give and give and give (often without asking in return - other than a polite nod of here’s where you can go if you wanna learn more)

So when you run a sales campaign people absolutely 👏 eat 👏 it 👏 up 👏 because they’re getting a sweet AF deal from a company they know, like, and trust.

A new episode of Your Brand Is Showing dropped this morning where I break down what I call your “you-ness” and why that’s EXACTLY what you need to highlight in your marketing so when your best-fit clients stumble on your content they’re like “oh, hi. Yes that’s me and that exactly what I want!!!”

And because I love a good real-life example showing how a consumers brain works…

Let’s talk about how when I was the consumer, New York Wedding Photographer was the absolute no brainer option as my wedding photographer based on what I knew I wanted and what his marketing actually said. 🤘

His whole style is “I’m here to capture moments as they happen”

Which is exactly what I was after.

I didn’t want moments staged or someone stopping me mid-laugh to get a better angle. I wanted to be with my husband, my friends, my family, and just live the day.

His content absolutely locked tf in on that feeling (big slay) so as soon as I got engaged, you can bet your ass I already knew who I was hiring to shoot my wedding.

(Literally easiest decision of the whole wedding planning process if I’m being honest 😂)

Go listen to the full episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts (comment POD for the link) for some more examples of how you can showcase your you-ness in your content.

And let’s make it frickin easy peasy for your best-fit clients to choose you too. 🫡

And bonus tip: ✨no one gives a damn about you✨

People care about what’s in it for THEM. They follow your business because they want it to benefit them in someway.

You might think your offers are cool. You might actually even be the coolest dude in the Wild West.

But unless you position your content so it’s about *your audience* first and foremost, they will not give you the time of day. Promise. 😘

Something I fear shouldn’t have to be said but absolutely does…Your content will only ever be as strong as the business behind it.

Because it’s really f*cking easy to make good content for a good business.

I mean, you could absolutely lie online to make a sh*t business look good (but that’s not ethical, so absolutely tf not).

And even if you did…eventually, your audience is going to figure out that what they were promised isn’t actually what they’re getting.

AIINT nobody got time for that.

Buttttt at the same damn time, content can only do so much for your business if your operation isn’t built to withstand all that content actually *can* do for you.

Likeeee let’s say you hire lil ole me and now your posts DO consistently attract new leads? Now what?

Can you serve them efficiently without diluting the quality of your work? Or are you now drowning in a waitlist/out of stock graveyard?

Because THAT part is overlooked far too much.

Everyone wants to get more eyes on their business.

But if the rest of your business isn’t equipped to handle those eyes?

Well…then what was the point???

Content doesn’t exist separately from the rest of your business. It’s one piece of a much bigger picture.

And I think we’d all be better off considering what happens after the content works just as much as we consider how to make the content work in the first place. 🙃
