There is no such thing as print being dead. Its ability to reach audiences outshines the power of digital. While digital marketing is widely used by many brands today, print offers a unique way to enhance customer experience through multisensory experiences.

Here are some sensory marketing techniques that print companies are putting more of a focus on to compete for consumers:

Tactile Print – Ink is used to enhance the consumer’s touch, with examples such as foiling, embossing, debossing, embellishments, and die-cuts making a piece stand out.

Scent-Enhanced Print – Unique brand experiences for mail, brochures, and packaging that include sample strips or scratch-and-sniff features are great examples. Research has shown that smell emotionally affects humans more than any other sense.

Sound-Activated Print – Sound chips can be used in mail pieces, or including a QR code to scan will trigger brand-specific music or sounds.

Why do these multisensory experiences work for consumers? Including all the senses brings a rich, coherent campaign to life for the consumer; they’re able to have a higher brand recall by using many parts of their brain, and measurable ROI and conversion rates can be achieved using materials like QR codes and AR technology.

With the ability for print companies to utilize multiple senses for their campaigns and printed pieces, they can differentiate themselves from the digital marketing solutions that are available today. All it takes is tapping into the human senses to create memorable experiences.
