✔️ If you’re a follower of Jesus, he calls you to a life of obedience—even if it appears foolish to other people, even if it doesn’t make sense financially, and even if you don’t understand it and are scared to death.

Luke 5:4-5 says, “When [Jesus] had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’ Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets’” (NIV).

What did Peter do? He responded to Jesus with unquestioning obedience.

✔️ I don’t know what God has told you to do, but I will tell you this: Disobedience always hurts you because you miss out on God’s blessing in your life.

✔️ Jesus had stepped into Simon Peter’s boat. But he didn’t stop there. He also started giving this professional fisherman instructions on how to fish!

Notice Peter’s reaction. He didn’t argue with Jesus. He didn’t say, “Excuse me, Lord. You’re a carpenter. I’m a fisherman. And those fish aren’t biting! Who are you to tell me how to do my job?”

✔️ And he didn’t hesitate. When Jesus told him to launch the boat, he didn’t say, “Why don’t we think about this for a minute? Let’s form a committee and vote on it” or “We’re pretty dirty and tired here, Lord. How about we try again this afternoon?”

What did Peter do? He responded to Jesus with unquestioning obedience.

✔️ Your vision—how you see the world, how you see God, and how you see yourself—determines your stress level, your success, your stability, and your spiritual strength. It’s all about vision.

The Bible tells the story of how Jesus healed a blind man named Bartimaeus, restoring his vision. From that story, we can learn the process by which God can transform your life and give you your vision back.

The first step to getting your vision back and living a transformed life is to believe that Jesus can change your situation.

You need hope in order to change. Hope means believing that Jesus can do what you can’t do on your own—and what no one else can do for you. It’s trusting that what feels impossible isn’t too big for God.

✔️ Luke 18:35-38 says, “As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road. When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening. They told him that Jesus the Nazarene was going by. So he began shouting, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’” (NLT).

You wouldn’t stand up in a huge crowd of people and start yelling—drawing attention to yourself—unless you believed it was the only way to get what you needed.

Bartimaeus’ cry wasn’t a cry of desperation. It was a cry of hope. He moved because he had hope.

The reason why so many people have lost hope today is because they’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Some people choose to put their hope in the government, until it lets them down. Others put their hope in their job, until they lose it. Some put their hope in other people, and they will inevitably be disappointed because no one is perfect—including you and me.

✔️ There is only one source of hope that won’t disappoint you or let you down. There is only one hope that you cannot lose. That hope is in God.

✔️ The reason why most people are ineffective in life is that they’ve never learned how to fight the battle in their mind.

If you want to learn to manage your mind, you have to be free from destructive thoughts. As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, that isn’t easy. The Bible says you have three enemies working against you to keep you from making lasting changes in your life.

The first enemy is your old nature.

✔️ Do you ever find yourself doing things you don’t really want to do? That’s the battle in your mind between your old, sinful nature and your good intentions.

The second enemy is Satan.

Satan cannot force you to do anything, but he can make suggestions, and those suggestions are incredibly powerful. He can use other people, the media, or even just suggest negative thoughts directly in your mind.

The third enemy is the world’s value system.

✔️ Does anything in our society encourage self-discipline? Not much. Advertisements tell us, “You deserve a break today” and “Have it your way.”

You have a choice when it comes to what you think about—and your mind has to listen to you! Make this verse your life motto: “I have made up my mind to obey your laws forever, no matter what” (Psalm 119:112 CEV).

✔️ Calling and vision go together. God’s call on your life is his vision for your life. If you want to get God’s vision for your future and experience real transformation, then you’ve got to get his call on your life.

When people hear someone talk about being “called by God,” they sometimes think of it as a scary thing—as if anyone who is called has to be a missionary or pastor or go to some remote part of the world to serve God.

✔️ But God’s calling isn’t something spooky or complicated. It’s simply God’s plan and purpose for your life.

Everybody in the whole world is called by God. We’re all called to know God and to love him—and to share his love with others. He has also called us to serve him and to use our talents to honor him. The only question is, are we going to answer his call?

✔️ To hear God’s call, you’ve got to pay attention to him, which means you have to slow down. You have to make room in your life to make knowing God your first priority.

One way to hear God’s call is to spend regular, consistent time alone with God reading the Bible, praying, and just being still. Isaiah 30:15 says it like this: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” (NIV).

✔️ When you hear God’s calling in your life and go after it, you will succeed—because God always blesses the vision and calling he gives his people. Spend some quiet time with God, and you’ll learn just how much he wants to bless you as you pursue and fulfill your calling.

✔️ When you use your abilities to help others, God is glorified.

God wired you to make a contribution with your life. He did not give you your talents and abilities for your own benefit. They are for the benefit of other people—and their talents are for your benefit.

✔️ I am so grateful for people who are talented in areas that I’m not. For instance, I’m grateful for accountants. Because I stink at accounting! I’m grateful for people who know how to do taxes.

You’ve got talents too.

Are you using them to bless others?
Are you using them to help others?

✔️ When you don’t use the talents God has given you, other people get cheated. The way you bring glory to God is by using your talents. “Use them well to serve one another.” God is glorified when you use your abilities to serve others.

💫 “ “If you . . . know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Matthew 7:11 (NIV)

✔️ God is the source of everything. Everything you see in the world and everything you can’t see in the world and in the universe, God made. He’s the source of every good thing that has ever existed or will ever exist.

When you depend on God as your source for everything, there are four truths you need to remember.

1. First, everything is a gift from God. You didn’t earn anything you have. It’s all a gift of God’s grace. If God didn’t want to give it, you wouldn’t have it. The Bible tells us in James 1:17, “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (NIV).

2. Second, there’s nothing you need that God can’t provide. You don’t know what you’re going to need the rest of the year—or even for the rest of the day! But whatever it is, God has the power to supply it.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:19, “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (NIV). “Riches of his glory” means as lavish as only God can lavish. God has unlimited resources.

3. Third, God wants to give you everything you need. Matthew 7:11 says, “If you . . . know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 NIV). God is a good Father, and he wants to meet your needs. Before you even know what you need, God knows. And he is ready to provide it and give abundantly more than you could ask.

4. And here’s the fourth thing: God is waiting on you.
If you have needs in your life that aren’t being met, the problem is not that God doesn’t want to meet those needs; the problem could be you haven’t asked him yet. He’s waiting on you! James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God” (NIV).

Go ahead and ask your heavenly Father, the Creator of the universe, for whatever you need, and see what he does for you.

💫 “O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe . . .” Habakkuk 3:2 (TLB)

✔️ God’s not just some distant figure—he wants to be your friend. And like any friendship, that means spending time together and talking regularly. If you’re wondering how to hear from him, try starting with worship.

✔️ In other words, thank him for being a part of your life and for being interested in the details of your life. When God gives you a vision, when God gives you a dream, when God responds to your prayers, thank him! That’s part of worshiping God.

✔️ I want you to stop seeing your prayers as a monologue and start seeing them for what they truly are: a dialogue. Prayer is a conversation with God. He hears you when you pray, and he answers you when you ask questions. He wants to talk to you every day. And when you faithfully talk to God every day throughout the day, it will revolutionize your life.

✔️ Now, it’s hard to recognize God’s voice if you don’t really know him—and there are three levels of knowing God: recognition, acquaintance, and friendship. You may be at the recognition level; you know God is there, but you don't really know him. Or you may be at the acquaintance level: you know God a little bit, but you don't know him very well.

✔️ God wants you to live at the friendship level. He wants to be your friend, and he wants you to be his friend. If you’re struggling to talk with God regularly, as one would talk to a friend, pray this prayer:

“Dear God, I'm amazed that you would want me for a friend. I really want to learn to have conversations with you. Help me to spend time with you everyday. Thank you that you care about every detail of my life. Jesus, I want to know you more and more every day and I want to depend on you for guidance in my job, my family, my future, and in every other area of my life. I invite you to be the manager of my life, my Lord and Savior, as I follow you and trust you. In your name I pray. Amen.”

💫 "But perfect love drives out fear.”

1 John 4:18 NIV

✔️ Jesus defeated death, and that means he also defeated Satan. That’s why he came to earth. The Bible says, “The Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8 NLT).

What is the devil’s work?
. . . He messes with your mind. He fills it with worry, guilt, resentment, anger, fear, and confusion. He whispers in your ear that you’re worthless, helpless, hopeless, and aimless.

Satan uses these thoughts and emotions to keep you enslaved.

The biggest tool Satan uses to mess with your life is fear.

✔️ The Bible clearly says that fear doesn’t come from God: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18 NIV). The Bible also says, “God is love” (1 John 4:16 NIV). So when you’re afraid, that’s not from God—because there is no fear in love, and God is love.

But Jesus defeated death; he destroyed the devil’s work. And so, when you as a believer grieve a death, you grieve with hope.

✔️ You grieve because you miss those you’ve lost. You grieve, but you know that if they believed in Jesus, you will see them again in heaven. They are waiting there in the place we were all designed to go in the first place.

In Hebrews 2:14-15, the Bible says, “Since all of these sons and daughters have flesh and blood, Jesus took on flesh and blood to be like them. He did this so that by dying he would destroy the one who had power over death (that is, the devil). In this way he would free those who were slaves all their lives because they were afraid of dying” (GW).

✔️ So whenever you feel fear creeping into your heart—whether it’s the fear of death or something else—remember it isn’t from God. Then ask him to drive out that fear with his perfect love.
