Michael E. Ge**er covers it in his book ‘The E-Myth powerfully.
According to Michael, companies go through 4 phases.
1. Infancy - No structure, haphazard, entirely depending on the CEO being involved with every step, wearing too many hats.
2. Awkward teenage years - You’re growing, and people are supporting you, but if the CEO is absent for too long (everything falls apart)
3. Adolescence - Your team is developing structure, systems, policies, and protocols to manage the business for long periods without fallout. But still requires the CEO to survive
4. Maturity - You're not needed whatsoever for your business to grow effectively, systems and protocols, etc have settled in and the company sustains itself.
If you desire to move through stages 1-2-3-4 you desperately need to focus on systems, not just for products, services & sales - but branding systems.
This is the only way you’ll be able to effectively command content, marketing, advertising, etc without being at the whim of your employees.
If you want to be one of the greats, do as the greats do.
