The Taliban-led Ministry of Interior says its security forces have dismantled what it described as one of the most active and dangerous kidnapping groups operating in Kabul, following a special operation in the Afghan capital’s 17th police district.
According to the ministry, the operation was carried out by security personnel from Kabul’s 15th police district in coordination with forces operating in the 17th district. Taliban authorities said the raid resulted in the rescue of a kidnapped individual identified as Haji Sayed Ashraf.
Officials further stated that five alleged members and collaborators of the kidnapping network were arrested alive during the operation, while two individuals identified as the group’s key leaders — Karimullah and Ahmadi — were killed.
The Ministry of Interior described the group as one of the most notorious criminal networks involved in kidnappings in Kabul, though independent verification of the claims has not yet been possible.
The operation comes amid growing public concern over a reported increase in criminal incidents across Afghanistan, particularly in Kabul and other major urban centers, where residents have repeatedly raised concerns about kidnappings, theft, and armed robberies in recent months.
