“Diplomacy does not need to be confined to high-level summits between heads of State.”

So said Christopher Preble, Director, Reimagining US Grand Strategy, at the conclusion of Player-to-People Diplomacy, a Stimson Center event exploring how American athletes – and NFL players in particular – can act as informal U.S. envoys and affect foreign perceptions of the United States.

It was a timely discussion. Sports diplomacy, and cultural diplomacy more broadly, is increasingly salient as traditional tools of U.S. international engagement face political and structural constraints. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, and the 2028 present high-visibility opportunities to engage global audiences beyond formal diplomatic channels.

The panel underscored how culture and competition often reach foreign publics faster and more credibly than policy pronouncements alone, creating meaningful opportunities for U.S. engagement abroad. Speakers included Don Davis (NFLPA), Troy Vincent (NFL), Evan Cooper (Stimson), moderated by Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff (NYU).

At North Coast Communications, we pay close attention to how influence travels and how institutions can engage global audiences through culture, narrative, and trust in Washington and abroad.

AI is changing how emails are read — and sometimes rewriting the message before a human ever sees it.

In this piece for PR Daily, we break down how AI-generated email summaries work, why message fidelity is at risk, and what communicators can do now to adapt.

How to design messages for both human and artificial readers.

Our forthcoming study will provide an early look at how Apple’s AI email summaries behave and which content factors appear to influence them.

Society has a stake in understanding how it communicates with its members. Government has a stake in how it communicates with its citizens. Business has a stake in how it communicates with its customers, employees, suppliers, and shareholders.

North Coast Communications has a direct stake in understanding how the production, transmission, and consumption of communications affects the messages they carry.

Increasingly, those messages are parsed, processed, and condensed before the intended audience even sees them – not by human editors, but by artificial intelligence. Google, Microsoft, and Apple’s AI-powered email summaries are some of the first mainstream examples of this shift.

Apple Intelligence, for instance, presents recipients with an AI-generated digest of an email’s content, potentially affecting message fidelity and influencing what users may choose to open, read, and act upon.

This signals a broader change: in coming years, summarized communications will be common across digital channels, from inboxes and messaging platforms to enterprise tools.

Our research looks at Apple’s AI email summaries and tests content manipulations to see how they influence summary outputs. We uncover email practices that can help organizations design email communications for AI-mediated summarization.

We look forward to sharing this research with my communications colleagues and network. Its working title is “AI Email Summarization Using Apple Intelligence: Public Policy Implications.”

Today’s global challenges are testing the strength of institutions, the resilience of societies, and threatening freedom of all forms.

The ’s 2025 Freedom and Prosperity Indexes offer urgent new data on trends in political freedom, economic freedom, rule of law, and prosperity across 164 countries.

The findings are unsurprising: democratic institutions and societal prosperity remain under threat in countries around the world.

The good news: democratizing countries see an average 8.8 percent increase in GDP per capita over 20 years compared to autocratic peers. Consider The Baltic States, which serve as a paragon of this finding, juxtaposed with Belarus, which serves diametrically.

North Coast Communications attended today’s launch event, which convened impact investors, government officials, foundation leaders, and private sector representatives for a timely discussion on the state of democratization and development.

As a public affairs and strategic communications firm in Washington, DC, we support organizations supporting transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance.
