Stop the “forced networking” awkwardness!!

We’ve all been there: you walk into a workshop group where the energy is flat, or a “networking hour” that feels more like a chore than a connection. When group dynamics are left to chance, the experience usually stays surface-level.

At Storycraft Lab, we believe that community doesn’t happen by accident; it happens by design. Our Group Matching feature uses Experience Profile™ data to intentionally shape how people come together. It aligns team pairings, mentorship moments, and workshop flows. 🧠

Instead of random assignments, we use smart grouping to ensure:

1. Optimal Chemistry: Pairing people based on how they learn and lead (from Creators to Adaptors) to ensure every hackathon or buddy system actually thrives. 🛠️
2. Curated Mentoring: Moving past “small talk” into high-value, data-driven connections that actually move the needle. 🤝
3. Personalized Relevancy: Empowering roundtables and forums where every participant feels like the discussion was built specifically for them. 🗣️

By connecting the right people in the right way, we ensure the outcomes are as
impactful as the intentions. 🗺️

What does empathetic leadership actually look like in practice?

We spent an hour with leaders across industries during our March Agents of Change session, and the patterns were clear: Empathy becomes visible in how you make decisions, manage energy, and build trust.

The following Guiding Principles emerged from this session:

⚖️ Empathy + Decisions
Empathy is a decision strategy. Your decisions are where empathy becomes real. It shows up in what you prioritize, what you say no to, and what you protect. Empathy is intentional tradeoffs.

⚡ Energy
Leadership requires energy management. Different people contribute differently. Your job isn’t to standardize your team, but instead to orchestrate their contributions.

🔍 Know Your People
If you don’t understand your people, you’re guessing. The work is in getting to know how they think, how they show up, and what they need to contribute.

🤝 Real vs. Performative
Trust is built (or broken) in patterns. Trust comes when you ensure your actions align with your words.

✨ Consistency / Authenticity
People watch what repeats. Trust builds over time in what you consistently follow through on.

🔄 Leadership Powerskill
Empathy has evolved. It is NOT a soft skill. Empathy is how leaders make decisions under pressure.

👤 Identity
Empathy isn’t theoretical. It shows up in how leaders operate every single day.

A special thank you to our co-hosts, Tavar James and Carolyn Dolezal, for leading this exploration with such candor and insight.

We also want to recognize our incredible contributors who brought their own “front-line” leadership experiences to the table. Thank you for sharing your expertise and helping redefine the practical operating models of empathetic leadership.

There’s a massive difference between a room full of people and a room full of connected people. One is a crowd, while the other is a community.

We spend our days developing strategies to close that gap. Our goal is to design for belonging instead of just attendance.

If you’re looking for more than just event tips and want some tried and true frameworks for human connection, check out our newsletter: Notes from the Lab.

Storycraft Lab was onsite at the second Google Xi Days in Atlanta last week 👋

Xi Days 2026 was an intimate, two-day living workshop for Google’s experience institute (Xi), an interdisciplinary coalition of artists, scientists, academics, technologists, designers of every kind, philosophers, poets, writers, filmmakers, and more. They are builders of ideas and shapers of culture, drawn together by a shared mission:

To humanize corporate life and to continuously recenter people as the heart of innovation and the workplace.

We were there supporting the Google Xi team, helping design and facilitate moments that go beyond content to inspire imagination and action through storytelling and research.

Check out a few photos from Google Xi Days 2026 - more insights to come soon!

✨ This week’s Storycraft CoLABoratory explored The Physics of Belonging: the invisible forces that shape whether people feel safe, engaged, and willing to contribute.

Hosted by special guest Shannon C. Rose, of SCG Creative Solutions, we grounded the session in lived experience, inviting participants to reflect on: when they first felt a true sense of belonging, when they first felt separate or on the outside, and how their bodies and behaviors responded.

From there, we unpacked three systems that make belonging possible:

⚖️ nervous system stability

🔲 clear energetic boundaries

🌐 coherent relational fields

CoLAB participants shared powerful reflections during the Story-Sharing, including:

“Belonging has always been a struggle for me, but I realized it’s an internal experience first. When I performed, wrote poetry, or danced, that’s when I truly felt safe and seen. It wasn’t about other people noticing me at first; it was about creating my own emotional and psychological safety, and that opened me up to connect with others more fully.”

Participants left the session with new perspectives on how personal awareness, energy, and group dynamics interact to make belonging feel real and actionable.

Collaboration is an Act of Care 🤝

We often say that collaboration is a skill. It’s about more than just working together; it’s about “playing nicely” in a way that creates space for something new to grow.

Our recent journey with reminded us of what’s possible when tech and storytelling move in harmony. By listening closely to the language of their audience and refining our approach, we’ve seen engagement flourish.

What we explored:

✨ A Rise in Connection: We saw a significant jump in how the community engaged between 2025 and 2026.

🦄 The Best of Both Worlds: We sharpened our segmentation to give our client more useful data, without losing the “Unicorn” results that participants love to discover.

🌱 Human-First Insights: The most beautiful finding? The audience is craving more relationship-driven experiences.

When we empower one another to lead with curiosity, the results go beyond the screen. They lead to a deeper understanding of our beautiful, changing planet and the people on it.
