Brand Story: Zeke’s Race Cars
One sunny afternoon, as I picked up my 4-year-old son Zeke from day camp, he eagerly asked if we could have Panda Express for dinner, even though we had just enjoyed it earlier that week. I told him no, explaining we had just had it. Zeke, with his curious eyes, asked, “Why not?” I turned to him and asked, “Do you have money to pay for it?” He thoughtfully responded, “I have a few coins in my car seat.” Smiling, I told him that wasn’t enough. Intrigued, Zeke then asked, “Well, how do I make money?”
An idea sparked in my mind. I suggested we take pictures of his favorite race cars at home and put them on t-shirts to sell. His eyes lit up with excitement, and he exclaimed, “Let’s do it, Daddy!” As soon as we got home, we took pictures of his race cars using my iPhone and quickly created mock-ups of t-shirts within ten minutes. Zeke looked at the designs and shouted, “YES!” With boundless enthusiasm, he asked, “When can we order them?”
We soon received the samples, took product pictures, and the excitement spread not only among his friends at school but also to adults. This marked the beginning of Zeke’s journey toward financial freedom and learning the value of work ethic. And thus, “Zeke’s Race Cars” was born, the start of a legacy from a 4-year-old CEO.
This project also incorporates the lessons we learn together in homework, riding a bike, and even interpersonal communication and patience. Zeke has embraced a phrase we use in the military: “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” This reminder helps us keep growing, learning, and building character through every step of our journey.
