Valve’s Steam Deck has a key weakness—SteamOS relies on Proton for Windows game compatibility, limiting its flexibility. Now, Microsoft is fighting back with the ROG Xbox Ally, a handheld co-developed with Asus that layers a new Xbox-branded UI over Windows for better performance and a console-like experience.

The new interface replaces the traditional Windows desktop, saving RAM and resources, and will roll out to other Windows handhelds in 2025. Microsoft has been working on a "Windows Handheld Mode" since 2022, and this new UI resembles early mock-ups with a Switch-like tile layout.

But Microsoft is playing catch-up—SteamOS and Proton have improved, letting more games run without Windows. While Linux gaming is still niche (~4% market share), Proton’s growth could threaten Windows’ dominance if users get tired of its quirks.

United Airlines' plan to install 's internet across its regional jet fleet has run into technical difficulties, forcing the airline to temporarily disable the service on about two dozen planes. The issue involves radio interference between Starlink's antennas and the systems pilots use to communicate with air traffic control.

United says the problem is a normal part of introducing new and doesn't affect . Roughly a third of the affected jets have already been fixed, with the rest scheduled for repairs during routine . The airline still expects to complete the Starlink rollout by 2025.
