From my digital sketchbook. Blixy is a deepsea diver and all around waterman. He is the kind of guy who has seen a lot good and bad but comes up with a smile most of the time. I find these guys bumping around in my mind. They have stories that they need to tell. This one will be a good one I think.

A good day is a day I can wake up, throw my board and gear in the truck, and cruise down to the bluff at La Selva. A chance to look at the world and see if there are any waves. These days, it is good to know it is all still there. From time to time, I'll see whales or dolphins passing by. Sometimes there is an old friend to talk story with. Some days I even go out and catch a few waves. Life can be good even these days, when it takes a bit of effort to see the good stuff. A good day to remember how lucky I am to be here, in this place.

Wow, I was digging around in some old sketchbooks looking for something new hiding in the old and came across this. It is me, back when I had hair. This is a shot from when
my old pal Scott Thompson and I had our magazine "Local". This shot was by Wally Parham. One of the great photographers who used to shoot for us or let us use their shots. I think this is the only shot of me surfing ever. I was a year or two older than my son (1990).

This past week, while working in my office, I started daydreaming about waves. So, I wanted to create a kind of dreamlike abstract wave that gave me the feeling of paddling out on a really hollow spot. I am a kneeboarder and body surfer, so I live for thick hollow waves. When I let my mind wander it wants to go here. Let me know if you get that feel from this one. Thanks for having a look.

I was doing some sketches of Dragons last week. Something about this guy made me smile. He looks like the kind of dragon who could make you feel like he was your friend just before he ate your whole flock of sheep. Then, convince you it was all just a misunderstanding. Dragons can be like that.

I remember that, as kids, we hung around with our friends all the time. As we get older, we get busy, get married, and have kids of our own. It gets hard to hold on to the friends who share the stories we tell. It is worth doing. Take it from an old guy who calls up old friends out of the blue just to say hi and laugh a little.

A while back I read about a man who was obsessed with staying young. He had read about something you rub on your skin to make you look young. He found it and used it and it turned him be. So gradually he did not notice till one day he was blue. Another portrait of people I never met. Hope you like it as much as I do.
