Its a fact of life that competition for customers is heating up. But one fact is certain: your customers and would be customers are on Facebook!

And unfortunately your competitors are capturing them using Facebook advertising ....as we speak!

This is happening because there are almost 2 billion people on Facebook. Many people check in with Facebook multiple times a day. They see the ads. By not advertising the competition is essentially "eating your lunch" and getting share of mind and their offers in front of business that could have been yours.

I have spoken to some businesses who felt that if they didn't jump in they would NOT have a business soon. That is intense.

This is an advertising tactic called remarketing. Remarketing allows you to advertise to recent website visitors. This means that if someone visits your website, and does not purchase or contact you, you can re-engage them with Facebook advertising.

If you are a small business owner have you ever got messages and emails from people promising to get you to the top of the Google rankings? You might have paid for some of it. In my experience, many businesses paid but got no results.

This is SEO Search Engine Optimization. It works but the web is now a very competitive place and it takes money, time and discipline to use SEO to drive traffic and sales.

A few years ago I began to realize the benefits of paid ads. Something i always looked at with a jaundiced eye as why pay when you can do SEO work which I was excellent at?

Facebook Ad Test: Conversion optimized vs Click Optimized (traffic)

In Phoenix, Arizona, Current Meditation is a meditation studio that aims to make mindfulness accessible to everyone. The studio’s meditation classes are led by expert guides who foster a supportive community atmosphere.

To test conversion-optimized ads vs click /traffic-optimized ads, 2 identical campaigns were created.

The first was optimized for clicks to the website so ads were delivered to the people most likely to click to the site. The second campaign was optimized for conversions so ads were , shown to those most likely to take the desired action ; in this case sign up for the offer.

Identical ads with a single distinctive image while ad copy promoted its free class deal. Target was people aged 25–60, living within a 10-mile radius of the studio, and who are interested in technology, traveling, mindfulness and health and well-being (VERY specific)

The team also created and targeted a Custom Audience of people who had viewed a content page on the Current Meditation website within the last 180 days and targeted them with the ad.

Results Conversion ads created 5X the memberships and 2.6x the leads.

You can literally spend $5 and reach 1,000 people. It does not make sense to spend more in Yellow pages, press ads, radio ads, tTV commercials, billboards or any other traditional media to reach them.

Independent car dealers with no clear follow up process are letting money walk away every day. I have solved that problem.

Here are the facts (vs. opinion) based on published data mostly from NADA and NIADA.

78% of people who visit a car lot WILL buy a car
90% of them will buy within 1 week
When people revisit a dealer they close 60-80% of the time.
These revisits are known as be-backs.

So here is the really amazing stat!

90% OF USED CAR DEALER SALES PEOPLE DO NOT FOLLOW UP!

For whatever reason no follow up happens: Houston ...we have a problem.

Franchise dealers generally spend thousands a month on business development centres to try and reach these prospects. Independents not so much.

Let's work this through with some real numbers I got from a small dealer last week in MA to see what could happen.

The dealer had 130 unsold prospects last month.
If he could find a way to bring back 10% of them -13 people- the 60-80% closing rates means 8--10 more cars a month.
Their gross per car was ~$2,000 which means that's $16,000 to $20,000 additional per month. Not too shabby!

Have I made my case? Are most dealers are throwing money away? Of course they are!

I made it my mission to come up with a way to drive up revisits (aka be-backs), be 99% hands off for staff, personalized to the dealership and effective. I ended up with a voicemail message system for all unsolds which gets ~10% call back rate. They call YOU. No chasing. No voicemail. A live call. You have to answer the phone of course but inbound beats outbound every day of the week.

It also works in 3 other areas: a) to grow referrals from past buyers (data shows that 30% of buyers have someone in the market b) buying inventory locally without the chaos, competitiveness & cost of the auction and c) generating fresh UPs from your PMA.
