RIP Jumbo! You were the inspiration for this little company I called "The Jumbo Company".
Back in the late '80's, early '90's, a friend of mine, Pat and I would play golf whenever we had the chance. We were both fairly competitive and shared our love for the game of both golf and music. Pat was a hell of a guitar player back in the day. Being that Pat's mother was of German descent, I would nickname him Bernhard, after the great German pro, Bernhard Langer.....who is still very quite competitive today. In turn, Pat called me Jumbo, being that my mom was Japanese. When the time came to start up a side business outside of the engineering field, I chose from my one of my first early careers as a screen printer. This company had to have a name linked to my Japanese heritage.....thus the name.
So now you know.......
Masashi “Jumbo” Ozaki, the winningest Japanese golf professional in history, passed away Dec. 23 at the age of 78.
