Currently we are seeing an increase of Warrant scams. The scammers are calling our citizens and telling them they are an employee of the Pasco Sheriff's Office (and using a name of a current or past employee). They are telling the citizen that there is a warrant for their arrest and in order to handle this "over the phone" they need to go get a gift card to pay for it to be canceled. The Pasco Sheriff's Office will NOT call you on the phone to tell you there is a warrant for your arrest. The Pasco Sheriff's Office will NOT have you pay for a warrant over the phone or by using a gift card. If you receive a call like this, please do not pay anyone over the phone OR IN PERSON as this is not how warrants are cleared. Understand, you will have to make arrangements in person at a local law enforcement agency.

Visit http://oig.ssa.gov/report to learn more or report if you have received one of these phone calls!

Our "Pasco Proud" Person of the Week is Paula Stano. The Founder and President of a foundation that sends care packages to deployed troops overseas, and the mother of a Marine, Paula is quite familiar with how important it is to honor and look out for members of the armed forces. "These are truly basic necessities that we take for granted; if I can help someone else, why wouldn't I? We still have troops who need our help." You can learn more about Paula by reading her profile piece below.

Remember: Each “Pasco Proud” Person of the Week will be selected from submissions sent in by YOU. If you or someone you know has done something that you believe deserves recognition, please submit it to: [email protected]
