Paul Fenton, senior advisor to the general manager of the Florida Panthers, had just one day to call the Stanley Cup “his own” and he brought to The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA where he is a member. Friends, family, and members of the golf course were able to get up close and personal with what is widely considered to be “the trophy” in all of professional sports at an event at Freemans Grill, the onsite restaurant at The Captains, on Saturday evening (8/10/2024).
Prior to moving into management positions, Fenton played in the National Hockey League for nearly a decade, serving as left wing for several teams including the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Calgary Flames.
Fenton and the Stanley Cup arrived with much fanfare in a convoy of Brewster emergency vehicles. The cup was also under tight security with a team from the Florida Panthers onsite guarding the trophy, in addition to local police.
Countless people posed with the Stanley Cup on the terrace of Freemans Grill. Next to the cup was a discreet container that quickly filled with cash with people leaving donations, if they were so inclined. All money went to the Brewster Police Fund.
