Mother's Day is a special occasion when we celebrate and appreciate the women who have made a significant impact on our lives. It's a day when we honor the love and sacrifices of mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent more than $28 billion on Mother's Day gifts in 2021. However, some corporations have decided not to send Mother's Day emails this year. Major brands — like Levi's, DoorDash, Ancestry, Kay Jewelers, Etsy and Canva — have all allowed customers to opt out of emails this Mother's Day.

Why have some corporations made this decision? Some corporations believe that Mother's Day is too personal and that sending emails may come across as intrusive or insensitive. They also worry about excluding those who may not have positive relationships with their mothers or who may have experienced loss. Others believe that the commercialization of the holiday goes against the true spirit of Mother's Day and that sending marketing emails may come across as insincere or opportunistic.

While there may be valid reasons for not sending Mother's Day emails, there are also potential downsides to this decision. For one, it may result in missed opportunities for engagement and sales. Mother's Day is a significant spending holiday, and many people appreciate receiving special offers and promotions during this time. Additionally, it's important to consider the impact on customer relationships. Not acknowledging the holiday may come across as uncaring or disinterested, potentially leading to negative perceptions of the brand.

Ultimately, the decision to send or not to send Mother's Day emails is a complex one, and each corporation must weigh the pros and cons carefully. At the heart of the decision should be a sincere consideration of the needs and expectations of the target audience, as well as a commitment to building authentic relationships.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you believe corporations should send Mother's Day emails? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

In today's email, I talked about the social media content that every business owner should utilize.

Video content reigns on social media: Short-form videos, like the ones found on TikTok and Instagram Reels, are a must for any social media strategy. Create bite-sized engaging material for your audience.

👉 Interactive content: Quizzes, polls, and surveys are all examples of interactive content. People like to feel like they are being heard, so give them a way to interact.

👉 Private messaging: Private messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger are becoming increasingly popular, and businesses should offer live or automated customer service through these channels to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

👉 Niche social media platforms are emerging: Niche social media platforms like Clubhouse and Discord are gaining traction. These platforms offer unique opportunities for businesses to connect with highly engaged communities.

👉 Live streaming: Since the pandemic, live streaming has become more and more popular, and it's not going to stop any time soon. Live streaming is a great way to connect with your audience in real time and give them an experience that is real, interesting, and unique. Consider going live once a week.

has a new magic eraser feature!

In this pic I took in Brazil there are people in the background but as you can see in the second photo, I was able to remove the people.

This is my first time ever using the feature and I did it on my phone so it’s far from perfect but I’m excited to play around with this feature further.

How will you be using Canva’s newest feature?
