Happy Friday!

Great day for a new purse design. For some reason, I always craft new items in two’s.

I made the brown one first and then immediately started on the purple one. Both have fully matching hardware and one inside pocket. The front zipper pocket was a quick design change I made while assembling. I completely goofed on making the strap for the purple one, so I had to completely redo it (wrong hardware). So now I have an extra black strap with purple stitching/black hardware (instead of the silver).

Custom saddle purse headed to its new owner today!
This one is done in completely natural full grain, vegetable tanned leather. The only coloring is due do being oiled with neatsfoot oil. Have not done one all natural like this in a very long time. I cannot wait to see my customer’s reaction!

My current leather tooling project. I working on these mostly at craft shows and farmers markets. I think it’s coming out pretty awesome! 😎

Brand new design!
I love how these bags came out. After the first one, I immediately made the second. I kind of want to make like 100 of them in every color and leather variation but those that know me, know I rarely make the same exact item twice:)
These are my own original design (based off similar ideas out there). Saddle bag style, full grain leather, handmade with pride. They will be on sale Farmer Market today, 5-7pm.

I talk about leather grades at all of my shows.

Folks are almost always surprised that “Genuine leather” is the lowest grade. “Bonded leather” is actually the lowest, but the two are often advertised as genuine leather. Both are very similar and are NOT 100% Leather, often as low as 1% Leather (mixed with plastics, glues etc).

I use ONLY full grain leather in my work and will always do so. The quality and durability is just not comparable whatsoever. A prime example of bonded, or genuine leather would be wallet’s that turn white on the folds and creases.

Cool mask I made my mother for Christmas.
This is 5 oz. Vegetable tanned leather. Wet molded and tooled and a few days of work.

In my Marine Corps. Days; I used to get her one from each country I visited. Now she has one made my me from the good old USA!

The best Christmas gift (or any holiday) you can buy for a small business owner is business! This holiday season, shop local instead of those big box stores. I say this; speaking for all small business owners. I'm sure they will agree. 😎
