Getting to page one of Google is a win. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
But here's what the "just do SEO" crowd conveniently leaves out: ranking is only half the battle. What happens after the click is where most local businesses quietly lose.
You earned the visit. Your website lost the lead.
Maybe your page loaded slowly. Maybe your phone number was buried. Maybe someone landed on your homepage and had absolutely no idea what to do next. Whatever the reason, they left. And they probably called the next result down.
This is the expectation vs. reality nobody talks about in the "get your business online" conversation:
Expectation: Rank on Google → phone rings.
Reality: Rank on Google → someone visits your site → your site either earns their trust in 5 seconds or loses them forever.
Traffic is the opportunity. Your website is what you do with it.
The businesses winning local search aren't just showing up, they're making it embarrassingly easy for someone to take the next step when they do.
